Have you checked Settings - Notifications to see if it changed? If you reset settings at some point then you have to redo them all.

OK, you said they are set up the same. That is strange then.

Do you use the standard Twitter App or another Twitter Client? I myself use Tweetbot. It's notification settings are actually inside the software.

Good suggestion, coop1701, I currently use the standard twitter app (on both devices). Europa, yes I have checked both places several times. All set up correctly.
Deleting and then reinstalling it will prompt you to set up the notifications again which might fix it.

No chance at all, but what is also weird is that he also does not receive notifications of MY tweets. I haen't been able to test, but I don't believe he is the ONLY one whose tweets I am not getting notifications from.

Maybe you could try this… Go to your son's profile, click the gear icon, then click on "Turn on mobile notifications." Have him do the same on his end for your profile:

As a last resort, download a free Twitter client, set it up for notifications. Hide it in a folder with Newsstand and continue using the Twitter app. You'll get your notifications from the client. I've done that before. Or just use the client as coop suggests.

I did look at other free twitter apps and didn't really see one except for a couple that are only for posting?

I used Echofon for a while. It had notifications that worked well. I finally got Tweetbot when it was on sale. Echofon had added too many ads. But it would work great just for the notifications.
Echofon for Twitter by Ubermedia, Inc.

So notifications are working now, but not for one or more of the people you follow. Okay, I would try deleting and reinstalling it again, but this time log out first. I've seen that extra step help with notifications in the past.
