By Bootloader are you talking about the bootrom? If so no it can not be updated it is a hardware inside thats different than the 3g was. There are old bootrom and new but neither can be updated or downgraded. So you have nothing to worry about.

Yes it will update your baseband. Search the web and I know there is a way to keep from updating your baseband with redsnow or something thats out or look for a custom firmware that a trust worthy person made that way you can update keep JB and not update baseband. Good luck. I will see if I can find some information for you too.

What firmware version do you want to upgrade to?
4.3.3 I believe. I think that's the safest one with full functionality no? I'm just restoring it properly with a lower baseband so I can sell this thing for the 4S :)

I would leave it on 4.2.1 to do that! The baseband on that firmware is unlockable anything higher is not as easy to unlock. Just saying.

Hope this helps you out.

I think you can use TinyUmbrella too. Just thought of that. Check it out too. Very useful tool.

Yeah that's what i'm using. But iTunes just keeps extracting, then preparing to restore and it hangs. I am actually stuck in recovery mode cause the other restore failed, so i am kinda stuck atm. And want to preserve my 1_59.00 baseband
