Hey, I searched around but could not find the answers that I was looking for. I am interested in updating my unlocked iPhone from the oldest software to the newest without locking it back up.

How do I do this? I searched around for the update on cydia but was unable to find it.

two ways:

1) restore using 2.2.1, and then run quickpwn.

2) download 2.2.1 (do not install), and use pwnage tool to create a custom iPhone software image. then restore using that custom image.

you can get pwnage tool and quickpwn here.

Okay thanks. I have no idea how to do this, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Can 2.2.1's baseband be unlocked or should he restore to 2.2 and then run quickpwn?

Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything.
