I guess they are checking to see if you have credit.. and if so, if the score is high enough to trust you with paying the bill.... just wondering what to compare credit scores to.

I don't know. I just checked mine which is 730, which I think is good for a college student. According to "free" credit report.com, that is better than 53.07% of US consumers.

There are several websites online that you would be able to check your credit on.

If you're going to an At&T STORE to purchase, they'll strongly urge you to get a credit pre-approval before you pay.

680 or higher you should be OK. If it is less than 680 you will probably need to make a deposit.

does anyone know what a "good" credit score would be in a situation like this?
Okay here we go again, credit score is one factor on rather you have to pay a deposit or not, if you have any outstanding, un-paid or unresloved financial issues with a cell phone company, it's a gimme you will be required to pay a deposit believe me I know. But don't sweat it, pay the deposit if you have to then go make some extra cash to make it up the difference, that's what i am gonna do, no biggie.:laugh2: or based on this you make have even a better opportunity, read this
