After reading this forum, I decided to drop all the third party apps and restore my iPhone to its original state. Reading that a lot of people have been "bricked" I deleted as much of the third party apps as possible using installer.app and mobile finder. Doing this seems to make the update go through without a hitch. Already miss my apps, but who knows what Apple will bring us in the future!

I am very surprised that you would do an update with have the freedom of 3rd party apps. But thats your decision glad the update when okay for you
