Why I hate the iPhone

I'm a Nokia fan, I come on here just because I'm not interested in talking to people I can't debate with. I like the Nokia scene because it doesn't have the rabid fanboyism present with other brands, but then you don't need to use a Nokia for long to figure out things aren't quite right. They just seem to slip up, but they're sort of silly things, they seem to forget to update aspects of theirs phones or overlook silly things. Apple however, got all the difficult stuff done on their first go. The aesthetics were appealing, the interface was great, the music playback and web browsing were all top-notch. It was like they were in line to make the best phone ever then when it came to finalising a few details they got a time machine and asked 2003 to develop a few of the features:

No 3G
Crap camera capabilities
No memory card slot

Then to develop the rest of it they came back to 2007 but first of all they pulled some evil communists out of Soviet Russia.

No removable battery
No homebrew
Crippled bluetooth
No MMS (not that I care)

And there's probably more stuff I've forgotten but I'll leave it for now. The iPhone's not the most technologically advanced phone on the market contrary to what some believe (I won't argue on this so don't start). Sure the touch screen's nice and although the Apple fans don't seem to go on about it, the processor's much faster than those found in other phones. Other than that it's all be done before but then I don't really see much they can add to phones for now apart from making the user experience better which is what the iPhone kickstarted (bout bloody time). Yeah a few phones have GPS but if you've ever used it you'll see it's still nothing compared to a proper GPS module, maybe in a year or so. But as you can probably gather from this by now is I hate the iPhone because it had so much potential. It created a whole new market which it had all to itself, the user-friendly non businesss-oriented touch-screen market, which turned out to be pretty big, and Apple make this phone which feels like more of a novelty than a proper effort. If they'd sorted the errors that every critic picked up on with an hour of first getting the device they'd have a cracking phone which truly would be comparable to nothing. Sure the battery life would still be lame but considering the huge screen and mighty processor I think it holds up pretty damn well, and if it had a removable battery then you could easily replace it with a more advanced one from the third party market when they become available.

Now my final rant which I can't believe nobody has mentioned before; the iphone-PC/Mac connectivity. Why the hell do I have to use iTunes? I hated using it for my iPod, never mind my mobile phone as well. My old Nokia's amazing in this respect, I can plug it in to any computer and it'll work just like a portable USB drive, but the best thing is that I can do the same over bluetooth, and that's before I've installed the Nokia PC Suite software. As soon as I step in the house with my N93 (a year and a half old might I add) it hooks up with my PC and starts downloading my latest messages onto my PC which I can then read and reply to straight from my nice big keyboard without so much as cranking my neck down. Then I might want to put some MP3s on my phone so I can listen to some stuttering music as I cruise down the street so I browse to my music folder within the regular Windows Explorer (all the Nokia stuff is running in the background as a service) and I simply find the folder I want and right click it -> 'send to' -> 'N93 memory card' and it's sorted. Sticks it straight on my phone and the media player finds it automatically. Not to mention that to install software on my phone, rather than having to void the warranty, I merely have to double click on the downloaded .sis file which has the software installed on my phone within about one minute (and that's unless I feel like downloading it straight to the phone over the net). I really thought the homebrew scene would have cracked the bluetooth by now and had something like this going but I've been disappointed. I'll stick with my iPhone for now but if Apple haven't at least unlocked the OS and bluetooth by next summer then I'll be straight back to Nokia. Can't wait for Symbian Touch.

No company ever makes that huge jump in technology that makes us go wooooooow. It takes to long to develop and by the time its out its nothing special. Its just all personal preference who cares what cell phones people like and don't like. All cell phones are pretty much equal right now. All have there downsides and upsides.

I read it. Had to stop 3 times to refill my coffee but I read it. It contains the same complaints about the iPhone that have been told 30,000 times already and other than to try and get a huge argument started it really has no purpose. So as KNK said, "useless rant".

I'm not trying to start an argument, I also tried to raise a few points that I think have been neglected. I don't hate the iPhone because it's a bad phone, on the contrary, I hate it because it's a great phone that came so close to being indisputably the best phone on the market by a long shot, but they just made a few arrogant (maybe) decisions.

...great explaination...the decisions that were made, and are being made about the development of the iPhone are definitely justifiable...i wouldn't say arrogant...and what you have to understand that the iPhone is ever developing...most of the issues people like yourself are having about the iPhone is ALL preferences...that's all it is...you perfer to see this or you perfer to see that...there are quite a bit of restrictions in a pda device...and what you also have to understand once you do your research is that palm owns the platform for pda's which is pushed with windows/pc...so for Apple to do do what they did with the iPhone is a great job!...once you understand that, you wouldn't be hatin' so much ;)...but i understand ya tho'...

you can't go wrong with the iPhone

I will agree with you there. It is a great phone that could have easily been the best phone on the market with the addition of a few nice touches. The flexibility in this phone compared to most on market, the looks and dependability of the phone, the ability (although not to Apple's liking) to jailbreak and expand the capabilities of the phone makes it one of, if not THE, most powerful phones/devices on the market. Do I hate it because I can't cut and paste or any of the other features you mentioned? No. I couldn't cut and paste on any of my previous regular cell phones and although my previous phones all had memory stick slots, raising any one of them to 8 Gigs, as this phone is, would have been astronomically expensive. My HP PDA has 4 Gigs of memory now and I would not spend any money to gain more. Adding a memory card slot may be nice but unless a person is seriously using the iPhone as their only source of music (or loading it with porn video's) having 8 Gigs is pretty impressive.
Are there features that I think should have been included? Absolutely. My Sprint PDA running Windows Mobile had a lot of features missing on this phone but when you compare this phone with the total capabilities and dependability of the PDA phone this one wins hands down.
With all that said, I don't hate the phone. If I hated the phone then I wouldn't have bought it in the first place and I wouldn't go back to any of my previous phones simply because a few features are missing as you indicated you would do.

I have come by this site since before iDay, and the complaints have been the same since day one :laugh2: I don't really understand it, but everybody can have their opinion. I just don't get why they get aired over and over on here. I knew what the iPhone could and could not do long before I bought one.

Whether or not you feel its read-worthy is entirely up to you, I just don't think we're in the right to start belittling someone's obvious venting when they clearly stated you would be in for a ride based on the thread's title.

And for the record, I hate Nokia. For as much of a marketshare that they have, they never once took advantage of it to try and sway the industry into new ways of thinking and interacting with their mobiles. What did we get in the way of innovation? A game playing taco, N-Gage, and a video camera that does damn good video and oh by the way, it's also a phone! That compliments my USB Thumbdrive which is also a Lemon Zester.

Nuts & Gum together at last!

Haha. Coming to an iPhone fansite to spread hate isn't really the best use of your time. I can appreciate a good debate, but we all bought iPhones knowing what we were getting and I think it's safe to say that we're all mildly happy with our respective decisions.

You'll be hard pressed to turn us against the thing.

Twinnie, of course there are iPhone features that most of us would like to see in upcoming iPhone updates. What point does your post serve other than to stir up hate and discontent? If you don't like the iPhone, don't buy one in the first place or sell the one you have. Some of us do think it is the best thing since sliced bread, thinner, and more vital than life itself. That's okay, too. Why ***** at us. Why not go over to a Nokia forum and make constructive comments about the phone you love. If you have iPhone lovers there (wherever that may be) harassing you there, address them there, but please don't ***** at people here who are just enjoying the phones they love here.

I'm sorry, if he doesn't like the iPhone, then he doesn't have to get one. But WHY exactly is he coming here to tell us how terrible it is? I mean was he just sittin in his mom's basement, and like hmmm what would be the best use of my dull time? OHH i know! I'll go and start the same old tired debate. Well, if you aren't trying to start an arugmen, then don't post. We come to the iPhone forums because we love our iPhone. This isn't everythingihate dotcom so maybe you should look elsewhere for your debate. Like Nokia doesn't have flaws. How about their low quality production, and their aesthetically challenged designs? And they haven't exactly been known for their GROUDBREAKING developments. Actually, yes, the iPhone is the most advanced handheld out today. Many many, have tried to copy it, and they have only come close. Its annoying. We should ban people who don't think JUST LIKE US. lol not really on that last part, but the rest for real! Go bother someone else
