Why wouldn't anyone want an iPhone?

My sister called me today to help her with her new droid incredible she got last week. I'm not to familiar with it but it was fun playing with it for awhile. But as I played and liked it for aesthetic reasons only, I realized how much I love my iPhone 4 so much more. I asked her " why didn't you het the iPhone " her answer was " everyone has them, I wanted something different". I remember at Christmas she waited in line for hours at walmart to get a deal on an LCD tv that everyone has also, and reminded her of that. I guess my question is, do people not want them because " everyone has them". Or is it because people just don't know how good of a phone it is. I didn't care for Apple until I got my 1st gen phone and have been hooked since. I have an iPad 1 and 2 in my home, and Apple tv. All amazing devices.

Some people can not have a camera at work. Blackberry offers several phones without a camera.
    Why I have two phones.

1st each iPhone is unique by the App it has loaded (or I hope it to be that way)
2nd there are so many cases out there and some more bling and other ways to make it "Truly Yours"

I have had all the iPhones but have grown bored with them. So i'm not interested in the new whatever it will be called one. Some people like to easily personalize their device. The iPhone UI doesn't customize very easily. It's a nice device, especially for less techy people. They work and have good integration of some apps and features. I personally don't like the closed nature of it. I would like more features on it. Maybe "more" is a poor choice of words. "Different" might be better. I would like different features on it and these features just aren't going to happen.

Apple makes great devices. We have one of everything here in the house. I don't care for the company or Steve Jobs but I like the products. They look nice and work well. But you also pay out the nose for that. I would imagine that price for the device keeps some people from getting an iPhone also. Some people don't need all the things an iPhone can do and others want something that does more.

The current plan is that the wife will retire her 3gs and take over my 4 on October 12 as soon as the new iPhone whater is announced. If the new iPhone doesn't blow me away with new specs and new features....above what the rumors have been....then I will head out to pick up the Galaxy SII and i'll be switching to the dark side. :)

I'm just not seeing what other needs one would need that an iPhone can't do. Animated weather? Gimmick IMO. swipe multitasking? Seriously is it that important or just a gimmick also. I don't find myself switching constanly between apps and I run a businesss on my phone and iPad. Also how can one get bored with a phone? It's not a toy.

I looked up contradiction and this is what I found:

To answer the op some people like simplicity. They enjoy their simple flip phone that doesn't do Internet because it suits their needs. As I stated above some people can't have a camera. Some people don't want to switch carriers. Lots of reasons that someone chooses to not have an iPhone. Cost may be a reason also. Lots of free phones out there.

The fact that I paid for the damned thing means it's mine. I don't need any fancy cases or themes.

Was talking more about smartphones then any other. But understand your point. My 65 year old mom has a flip and loves it. ;)

Your sister is a big contradiction like a lot of other people...her tv but not the phone, there are a lot of people around w/her mindset, some of my friends and family also say the same thing "Everybody has the iPhone" when you ask them why they don't have one, or why they don't like it. I even thought that temporarily until I finally got my hands on one I noticed that "Everybody had the iPhone" for a good reason, it was awesome, simple yet chic. I've had one ever since.

I think for some reason people think a product isn't as good if everybody has one, they see a great product being diminished and devalued by a high volume of owners.

Plus in general people want to stand out :p

Some people like to think they know what they want better than Apple does. These people are silly.

Some people just can't be bothered and for them I can see that Apple is a good fit.

For those that continue to bother, it's ironic that they'd rather be told what to think. These people are silly-er.

Maybe it's better to watch what people do. If the phone as is serves you, great. If you find that your efforts are actually opposed to the products intent and design, then this is by far the most obvious contradiction.

    Apple must have missed something.

I was actually thinking about this recently, and I sympathize with her sentiments a little bit. The iPhone and phones in general are used for their function, but people also identify with them quite a bit. I thought of an analogy of a great shirt that looked great and fit perfectly. If everyone had it, I probably would not. Function is still more important with phones, but if being cool and unique were just as important as a smooth and slick interface, then it makes sense.

How You Remind Me. Yeah, I liked it. Everything else was/is bad, IMO. People hide porn in Nickleback folders because they know no one will look there.

I have been known to both listen to the Nickelback collaboration "hero" and loop the video of them getting rocks thrown at them on stage. That folder trick is brilliant!

They were decent before Silver Side Up came out. Their earlier stuff, like The State album, is at least respectable. I don't think any of that was released in the US though, so you were introduced to them by How You Remind Me (ugh).
