If you are upgrading from a 3G to the S model it appears that minus the 3GS being 2 grams heavier they have the exact same size and shape specs so your accessories should still fit just fine.

3G
Size and weight
Height:
4.5 inches (115.5 mm)
Width:
2.4 inches (62.1 mm)
Depth:
0.48 inch (12.3 mm)

4.7 ounces (133 grams)

Should is the key word, we will probably start to see the accessories/cases say either works with the 3G and 3GS or only for 3GS, that's when you will know.

The size is the same. Several pieces of the hardware are different; the camera, processor, and the battery, to name a few, which would account for the weight difference. They added a magnometer and a more storage capacity but remember, parts get better and smaller as technology advances.

If I was going to make any recommendation, I'd tell people to wait. I wouldn't put it past Apple to make something different to allow for new accessories. Maybe the camera lens is in a different place or something dumb like that. If I get a 3G S, I'm going to wait on accessories.

That looks like a nice case. I'm stuck between that and the one Apple sells that is similar...bottom of it pops off too...not sure what that's called?

I believe the Nike+ "chip" is just bluetooth functionality they enabled.

Joe
if that's the case, then i'd imagine the 3G would also have the functionality enabled, which is not the case.

I don't see any reason why the cases wouldn't fit both.

I would order some now, but I guess I'll wait to see what new stuff comes out with the 3GS.

Dave, does the "rubberized" case interfere with sliding it in and out of a jeans pocket?
Not at all. It's more of a suede finish than real tacky rubber. I really like the finish, though, because all scratches just rub right out.

Just beware of these surfaces in the summertime when you're using sun protection. Having that on your fingers will rub off the rubberized coating rather quickly.

That's a good call. Maybe the camera got moved a tinsy bit over to one side and the current cases would block like half of it. I'm gonna buy them all in a big bundle when I get the phone.
