Just in time for π day, 360-degree videos are now supported by YouTube. In a nutshell, "The appeal of 360-degree videos is that you can look around the scene while they're playing, making action sports videos in particular that much more exciting and interactive. Viewing it on something like Oculus or Google Cardboard lets you simply move your head, as if you were there."

Note: This didn't work on Safari. It did, however, work correctly on Chrome. On Safari, the on-screen control to change the point of view fails to appear (when viewed at the YouTube website). When viewed in embedded mode, the on-screen control appears, but the video fails to appear.
