    First iPhone Worm Infecting

Here's how (courtesy of another user).... Go to Cydia, manage tab, packages, and see if OpenSSH is on the list of installed packages. If it is, download and install a package from Cydia called MobileTerminal. Start MobileTerminal, type in "su", then type in the default password "alpine", then...

    3.1.2 and Jailbreak

Just curious, what is new/updated in 3.1.2 beyond the 'sporadic, not waking from sleep'; 'intermittent network disruption' and 'occasional crash during video streaming'? (esp., weighing in at 240 MB)

successfully downgraded to 3.0 from 3.1

My understanding is that this strategy works only if you've uploaded your ECID SHSH signatures to the server Saurik had set up.

successfully downgraded to 3.0 from 3.1

Sounds like the use of QuickPwn is to get around being stuck in the recovery mode loop. Another way to get around the recovery mode loop issue is to use iRecovery....worked like a charm for me. http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/07/irecovery-iphone-recovery-mode-loop-restart/

Why go from 3.01 to 3.1 Jailbreak?

My bad...I meant to say that Apple indicates improved exchange server support in the form of calendar events and such. I'll post my experiences later in the week.

Why go from 3.01 to 3.1 Jailbreak?

Here's Apple's PR http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/ not much, eh.... For me it was the improved exchange support...that I'll confirm next week and the DropBox app. so I'm JB'd at 3.1

    breaking new 3GS 3.1 jailbreak

Agreed about the DFU/recovery. The hard part is in fact downgrading back to 3.0 where the order of things is important. Once, done, it is a breeze to JB at 3.1

successfully downgraded to 3.0 from 3.1

Been thinking about this....did you uncheck the 'Activate the phone' option under general settings when using Pwnage? IF you're using AT&T, you don't need this checked....

    breaking new 3GS 3.1 jailbreak

It is IMPORTANT to appreciate that there is a difference between DFU and recovery modes. You must be in DFU mode the first time you do the restore and can be in either DFU or recovery the second time around (will probably default into recovery [e.g., iTunes logo and sync cable].

Using Saurik's guide to downgrade Firmware

I am happy to report that benefited from Saurik's server, as I stupidly upgraded from my JB'd 3.0 to 3.1 and thus has to downgrade, re-JB and then redsn0w myself up to 3.1. The downgrading was a major pain in the a$$ (followed Saurik's procedure but had to augmented it with iRecovery to deal...

Help Jailbreaking 3GS on a Mac

I used Redsn0w and the trick is to use the file located in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ There you will find your iPhone2,1_3.0_7a341_Restore.ipsw file you need. here is the link to using redsn0w:http://www.iclarified.com/entry/comments.php?enid=4448&laid=33#commentsanchor

So which should I go with?

As Napoleon_PhoneApart said both work find. One advantage that redsn0w has is that it automatically installs Cydia (whereas purplera1n requires an add'l step....unless this has changed). Here is a link to using redsn0w...
