    Surprises Waiting for Everyone....

How else would it work, you have to keep in mind that Apple stores are doing the same thing, they aren't having AT&T reps there to deal with contacts.

    Surprises Waiting for Everyone....

NO, they do nothing with the contract in store. Nobody need to physically sign anything. They are only selling you the phone hardware. Everything having to do with the contract is on iTunes.

    Honest questions answered.

Yeah, it just doesn't use SIM contacts, it can still use other AT&T SIMs once it has been activated. They only recommend using the new one because it will be the latest AT&T SIMs, old SIMs can cause performance problems.

    Surprises Waiting for Everyone....

See, my understanding is that they are NOT requireing account info at the time of sale, that is the whole point. Get people in and out as quick as possible. Why would they ask for your account info in-store when you just have to enter it again at home? Overall, my understanding is that AT&T and...

Any word on insurance for this bad boy?

Also, from the AT&T iPhone FAQ: I think it's stupid the way the keep phrasing that, it implies that the warranty covers the same things as insurance does.

    $250 Deposit for new customers

Ok, ill give a very easy reason why this makes no sense. EVERY new customer to AT&T who gets there iPhone at an Apple store would have to go to a AT&T store to pay the deposit, after opening their iPhone box and connecting it, that makes no sense. Not to mention, if they require a deposit, the...

That's completely different then insurance. It only covers defects, not damage.

Any word on insurance for this bad boy?

You need to talk to your insurance agent. If you just 'declare it' on your homeowners, it's only covered on your propery, and yes, it incurs the deductible and possible rate increases. You want a personal article floater or rider tacked onto your homeowners. No deductible, and it doesn't count...

The definitive iPhone activation and eligibility thread.

While Ive also heard it elsewhere on the form from someone who has proved to be quite accurate (att_employee), if you look at the BGR manual, page 16-17 says: "Existing AT&T wireless customers upgrading to iPhone: No upgrade fees apply." "Customers activating a new line of service: Agree to a...

Yeah, DO NOT cancel your service first, you may loose your number. Just transfer it in iTunes, that will automatically cancel your previous service.

    Surprises Waiting for Everyone....

Yes (If they except cash). They will try to get you to do a credit check (if you got to AT&T), but you don't have to. They don't need to know what account info it is tied to.

    $250 Deposit for new customers

Yeah, you guys read it wrong. The exchange that includes '$250' is an imaginary exchange, showing what to say if the computer tells the rep that the customer needs to pay a deposit. For that matter, it wouldn't always be 250, that is just in this particular example.

$36 dollars is the NEW LINE (new number) activation fee. The upgrade fee is $18, but that is being waived for iPhones.
