    AT&T Training Week Thread

Not like that, it has to be given by the account holder, not you, not anyone else but the account holder. You can have them call in to give it, but you just giving it out is not good enough.

By law, the account holder either has to be present or give verbal consent (after confirming his identity by last name, billing zip code and last 4 of ye olde SSN).

    My Big Question

Ring tones will be customizable (duh? A $20 Motorola can do that) via the settings menu. And since iTunes is the only storefront iPhone will use (officially at least), you can connect the dots.

The definitive iPhone activation and eligibility thread.

I'd object to that. The #1 post in this thread, made weeks ago, was accurate except that it now seems devices bought at Apple stores will be activated over the phone. A stupid detail that hardly discredits me, as I never claimed to know that much about Apple stores. Everything else has turned...

The difference is that all the new people will pay a $36 activation fee. You'll either pay an $18 upgrade fee or nothing at all, depending on your plan and subscribed features.

I must have missed that email, but I'm not taking that at face value. Those "no one is getting it" lines are more for managing the corrupt than people doing their job right. If supply will be tight, corporate doesn't want reps stashing an iPhone in some corner for 2 weeks, they want it sold...

    I guess I won't be getting an iPhone :(

Store reps are guessing. Don't listen to them. Customer care, or tech websites are more reliable.

Then why do you even want the thing? If you're not going to use its capabilities, it's a waste on time and money. Just keep whatever phone you have already and wait for the next iPod.

    Will AT&T offer insurance?

AT&T doesn't offer insurance on any phone they sell. It's all paid and supported by a contracted insurance agent, because AT&T isn't licensed to insure anything. It is this agent, Asurion, which decides to insure what and when. Generally, the cheapskates don't offer to insure anything over...

In general, a store manager can override and give you a standard upgrade if it's within a month of being eligible.

Store visit and new Generation iPhone

Reps that asked for time off before the blackout was announced are still okay to go on vacation. It's only the people planning stuff, but who hadn't asked for the days off before the blackout, that had to change plans.

AT&T employees will not be able to purchase an iPhone until 2 weeks after launch. This is standard policy, you can't buy any phone until it's been out for 2 weeks. You still can't buy the A717 or the Blackberry Curve. att.com and telesales will not have the iPhone on the 29th. Roughly 1 month...

    What Shall Be Leaked Next?

Well, that's my take on it. You can't have something as major as a data plan like that just drop with the phone. You'll need to give the reps a little training on it, especially if there is more than one plan.

    What Shall Be Leaked Next?

Plan info will drop any day know, by the 22nd at the latest. Although the next thing to leak will probably be: A)While theoretically unlockable, a carrier must have an Apple server for the iPhone to fully function. or B) The iPhone will be only available in store on launch. Telesales will...

The definitive iPhone activation and eligibility thread.

Will you be able to use it as a phone? Yes. However, other things will be disabled, as they require the carrier to have an Apple server, similar to Blackberry's and the Danger Sidekick series. Basically, if you're not going to use AT&T, you'll have to wait until it's launched by your carrier...

At&t inside source says $40 required data plan

I know and trust my sources, they cannot/should not tell me everything point blank, and there's a few details I promised personally not to share to anyone else. While that's not an NDA, I am not going to betray personal trust. If you don't understand all of that, it's probably because you've...

At&t inside source says $40 required data plan

I do take offense, I am not in retail. I have access to things (mostly people) that very few, if any, store or customer care reps do. That is my distinction from customer facing employees. Cust. reps are given fact sheets and store reps are given emails, I can ask people, either from the tech...

At&t inside source says $40 required data plan

There isn't one consumer plan with unlimited everything like that. There's two features, both 19.99, MEdia Net Unlimited and Messaging Unlimited. They can be added to any non-smartphone device.

    iPhone without Voice Plan?

Yes. It's hella-dumb and is one of the reasons why they made the BB Pearl, to reemphasize the phone features.
