iMac 2nd monitor options

Looking at getting my 1st Mac and I'm curious what options I have for a 2nd monitor or simultaneous output to an HD TV. Currently I have a dell laptop on a docking station with 2 monitors & an optional 3rd using my 42" TV on the wall.

If I got an iMac with the 27" display, what options will I have also wanting to output to an HD TV either simultaneously or as a 2nd desktop?

That's a hard one to answer.... I too am looking at the same thing and I'm finding it difficult to get a screen that looks similar - even the official Apple cinema display is a different height!

The TV I would imagine would be easy as you could do that by DVI, but I'm not about the second monitor due to the differences in what they look like.

Can't I get an adapter for the iMac to HDMI?

But then from there wonder how it works with new 10.0 with the multiple desktops. anyone have their iMac going to an HDMI TV too?
