i thought u could only buy them at the ATT Corporate store or an Apple store? This thread comforts me...haha...I'm still going to be early to my Cingular store though, who knows how many THEY will get. :-\
My fault...I meant AT&T. And you are correct, btw.i thought u could only buy them at the ATT Corporate store or an Apple store?
Good article. Thanks for the link! I'm still cautious about these high numbers available at launch. I'd love it if they did have 1M+ available but they just haven't done that in the past.ok article but, i like the 3 million at luanch part. it may or may not be true, but it's sure sounds good.
Now AppleInsider is picking up on the story:ok article but, i like the 3 million at luanch part. it may or may not be true, but it's sure sounds good.
not to sound negative but there best bet would to be sell as much as they can, just in case the iPhone does get bad reviews (I HOPE NOT)I think they're not only stocking up for launch day but also the weekend and week(s) after launch day. Some people might be on the fence still about the iPhone and may be persuaded once the reviews start hitting.
lol, i did the same thing..as much as i want the story to be true, the math just seemed wild....but it is being dubbed the largest electronic "toy" debut ever.3,000,000 phones/2000 stores =1500 per store.
Sounds a little weird. Maby the Apple Stores will get a lot more phones
I mean, what date did the FCC pass this thing? Is it even possible to make that many devices in that amount of time?lol, i did the same thing..as much as i want the story to be true, the math just seemed wild....but it is being dubbed the largest electronic "toy" debut ever.

I hope and think it will be true.
Think of it this way... What will look better for Apple, thousands of disappointed people leaving their stores with no iPhone because they ran out at 10:01am or thousands of people leaving their stores with a big smile on their faces and their shiny new toy?
I think they're not only stocking up for launch day but also the weekend and week(s) after launch day. Some people might be on the fence still about the iPhone and may be persuaded once the reviews start hitting.
I'd expect that half of these would be located at the distribution point in China for all the online orders. Another big bulk would be at Apple national distribution centers. Another chunk at ATT's distribution centers. Then you get down to the individual store level.3,000,000 phones/2000 stores =1500 per store.

That 3 million number will include phones available for online orders on Apple.com and At&t.com, so I don't think the number sounds that bad.3,000,000 phones/2000 stores =1500 per store.

Exactly, I bet you anything they have some in warehouses. What about people who order online? They'll be getting them from Apple's warehouse inventory. The amount of iPhones being shipped to AT&T stores and Apple stores won't be anywhere near the 3,000,000 (supposed) that they have altogether. They'll ship a fraction of that for the first day sales, and when they start to get low, they'll ship more from their inventory.I'd expect that half of these would be located at the distribution point in China for all the online orders. Another big bulk would be at Apple national distribution centers. Another chunk at ATT's distribution centers. Then you get down to the individual store level.
Once you start spreading the number out through the entire distribution channel it's not as many as you might think.
