3GS crackling speaker hiss crash

For the last 2 weeks I have been having big issues with my iPhone 3GS running OS 4.3.5.

If I play music through the external speaker, I either hear nothing, or I hear a loud hiss, crackling, and then the phone crashes and reboots.

The same happens on a call, if using the external speaker or not.

I have factory reset the OS, and tried different SIM cards, to no avail.

The phone does not appear to get hotter when this happens, and it does not seem to be related to battery level.

Is there any water damage? Check the dock and headphone jack. The humidity could've caused this. How long have you had your phone? Less then a year I'd definitely go into an Apple store. Over a year, I'd still give it a shot.

No need to be defiant. Just be pleasant and explain your problem to the genius. Either that or look before you submit posts.

Haha I have a mental image of someone definitely going into an Apple store and slamming their fists on the counter: "I demand that you help me with this problem!"
