Just read this article on the CNN app. Apparently Verizon (who posted over 6 Billion is profits recently) is trying to cut costs with the employee wages and benefits. The unions aren't having it.

Personally, I hate greedy businessses. And while I don't know the whole story, it is fairly obvious that Verizon actually had a banner year despite the economy. So it's really hard to see ANY reason that they might come up with as justified for cutting into the employees wages and benefits.

"Dear Staff, I know we cleared over 6 Billion in profits, but we'd like to ask every one of you to take a cut in pay due to the hard times in this economy." I'd be right up front of the line with 2 fingers in the air saying Eff YOU! back at them.

I hate companies like that too....they people are their back bone....without them...they will topple. Important to keep employees happy within reason.

That thinking is what is going to be the downfall of America.
I hate making predictions, but if a certain president makes a second term, I actually see this country hitting rock bottom, followed by an uprising and civil war in the decades to follow. (and yes, predictions say that he will win with the sympathetic vote giving him "one more chance". Effing idiots...)
With how our government and corporations treat up, we are becoming a pressure cooker that is about to pop.
Time to move to France...

someone out there wants unemployment to stay the same, I've heard it many times but I'm starting to believe it. a company that brings home 6 billion dollars in one year has no reason, especially in times like these, to shook waters and cause trouble other than trying to get someone's attention.
whatever it is, Italy sounds better :)
this is more than my brain can handle, all I know is that it's starting to get very sad.

Well if you want to roll with the conspiracy theories, then this is all part of the Illunimati's plan to rule the world. They separate the wealthy 1% from everyone else and consolidate the countries into one humongous empire. It seems like their plan is moving right along- although, if people decide we can't take it anymore, things will fall apart for them.
The whole Patriot act is nothing more than a front for taking away our basic freedoms in the name of security. 20 years from now, we might have check-points where we have to show our "papers" in order to go to the next state.

Of course, that's all just a bunch of crap.... Right?

Go Verizon Workers! People should always be able to stand up to injustice without fear of retribution. Corporations profit at the expense of their workers. I say its time they get some of that money too

Well to be honest it's not his fault entirely, remember that dysfunctional branch of govt called congress? That went on a 4 wk recess right after the US was downgraded to AA+! Who could get anything done in this atmostphere?

It's true congress is a bunch of bickering school girls, but the "Leader of the Free World" couldn't lead his way out of a paper bag. We needed a strong and resolute leader after Bush.
We got a wet noodle.

A friend of mine is one of the striking employees in NJ and he tells me they've been told flat out that they should be making the same as the Comcast guys who do the same job; same vacations, same health benefits, same wage scale, etc. It's not a straight pay cut but a complete philosophical overhaul of their employment practices that these guys are striking against.

Your friend should respond to them with, " If Comcast's management group jumped off a 10 story bridge, would you do it too?"

This is really sad, at [supposedly] a very exciting time for the company too! LTE, new "super" devices, you'd think of all people the employees might have something to look forward to. Unless it leads to the union coming back and getting something out of it a-la sports leagues like MLS/NFL recently

It's still retarded for Verizon to report 6 Billion in revenue and then ask everyone to take a pay cut. Imagine if your office came to you and said, We just had a record quarter, but we want you to take a pay cut, because workers doing the same job at another company don't make as much as you.

Can you hear me Now?

There will always be someone willing to do it for less.
Sucks for those people that work hard and have put in many years but truth of the matter is company's don't care about anything than the bottom dollar. Look at all the out sourcing that goes on now because it saves money.
