Consumer who get taken should not just accept it. The only remedy that you have is to complain so that others are warned to steer clear of bad policies and behavior. Apple screwed their loyalists and it is hard for many to simply accept this fact. i have read posts from many places and it is a hard thing for the loyalists to deal with. Apple is just another big company willing to screw customers. Please read this that I got from the New York Times. It was planned all along.......

" On Wednesday, Apple executives insisted that the price cut had been planned long ago and that the strategy had been conceived in part to keep the iPhone’s pricing in line with its new iPod Touch, a music player that looks like the iPhone but lacks the phone-calling ability. The sharp price cut, however, suggested that even Apple, which has long lived in a pricing bubble insulated from other personal computer makers, is not immune from the brutal pressures of the cellular phone businesss."

Apple sucks....

Do you remember the iPod photo? It got a price cut within a few months and canceled a few months after that.

Regardless, I am comparing Apples to Apples. You're comparing Apples to oranges when you compare pricing of Macbooks to iPhones. These are two totally different markets. My point, which is accurate, is that the cell phone market is extremely volatile and viciously competitive. Price drops are the norm, every single manufacturer does them. What Apple has done is no different than what any other cell phone maker has done.

The iPhone is just that, a phone. It's not a Macbook or even an iPod.
Thanks for mentioning the iPod photo. I don't remember it at all but I did a little investigating and found out that it was originally released on October 26, 2004 and the price (on the 60GB) model was cut February 23, 2005 from $599 to $449.

After 4 months on the market that's a reasonable price cut especially for a product that wasn't catching on in the marketplace. That was an attempt by Apple to stimulate sales. Nothing wrong with that. On June 28, 2005 they discontinued it.

Now let's fast forward 2.5 years to the release of the iPhone on June 29, 2007. We have a price cut of over 30% after barely two month of release for a product that was selling very well and was a hit in the marketplace.... and I don't have a right to be pissed off because its technology and that's just the way it goes? Will Apple discontinue the iPhone in another 4 months? Not likely.

Yeah, you don't have to sit back and accept it. Forget calling and emailing. Even if you purchased your phone on Day 1 you should still make an attempt to get some satisfaction. The best idea I can think of is to go into an Apple store and talk with a manager face to face. People don't like confrontation.

Tell the manager that this is unacceptable to you and you'd like a refund. Depending on his response you may have to dig in a little bit and get progressively more agitated. I'm not talking about making a scene, you know like screaming and throwing stuff... just have the attitude that you're not leaving until you're satisfied. You may need to change your request from a refund down to a credit (either a retail or an online one ) but you should be able to leave the store with something.

Anyway, the idea is to take some initiative and see if you can get what you want. If it doesn't work its not from a lack of trying. Sitting on a forum and bitching isn't worth much without action.

Just saw this post. Could be a good sign for all the early adopters. Its worth a shot.

"I went straight to the Apple store where I bought my iPhone on opening day (Wellington Green Mall in West Palm Beach) first thing this morning when they opened. I asked for the manager and told him I read in several forums that the stores where giving refunds if the phone was bought there. I expected to get a lot of resistance and excuses but to my surprise he said yes, no problem. He said they would have to charge me the 10% restocking fee and I replied that I guess that's the penalty I have to pay for being an early adopter. Well, it got better. He refunded the full price of the original purchase to my credit card, then charged me for a new iPhone using the new price and the same serial number of my existing phone. When he was done the restocking fee was not charged. I thanked him and when I turned around to leave I noticed there was a line behind me waiting to get refunds also. Looks like I may buy more Apple products after all ...."
