Meant to be a relaxing meeting place for people who don't hate Apple and make lousy misogynist jokes.
Bring in you positive comments, and how you think the iPad might work for you..
Some of us will at last relax and enjoy the ride. No foul langauge or inappropriate comments that belong on THAT other board.
(I remember now why I left EIC. So many nasty comments on so many things, even the ones that were not known yet!)
What do you like? How is it going to work for you? Does it have a place in your work, studies, entertainment. Did you have any unreasonable expectation? I'm all ears...

Im not trying to be negative, but a lot of the people here are not Apple haters, they just simply don't like the iPad because it didn't live up to all the hype it got. Its a great product, but for most of us on this board, we don't think much of it because we all have iPhones and iPod Touches and there isn't much difference.

Yeah actually I can't wait for this release. I have an iPhone 3GS and an iMac. I don't have a laptop because I never really needed one. I just want something for school that I can type on and surf the Internet. So the iPad appeals to me very well.

In my time here I've realized that most are big-time Apple fans. I am personally an Apple hater but I'm not close minded enough to not appreciate some of the products they've brought to the table.

There are very few people here than outright tell you not to do a certain thing(like jailbreak for example) but typically they are overcome by people saying that it's up to the post-er to decide what they want to do. This board is overall pretty darn friendly to most opinions.

You know what i noticed though.

"Its its small, its not big enough. If its big, its not small enough"

People are gonna always find stuff to complain about.

Im a photographer and I find this product to be excellent for me. Its REALLY going to benefit me.

Another thing, its not about WHAT it does and HOW MUCH it does, its HOW it does it.

IT has the same functions as an iPhone but does everything better.

I'm a photographer too. I currently use my MacBook when shooting an event. My current remote workflow is to download all pics from my camera to Aperture, process in Aperture, export to .JPGs then upload to smugmug.. I don't see how I can accomplish this with the closed iPhone OS on the iTab? I suppose we'll have to wait and see if the "camera adapter" will allow importing of photos to some application on the iTab, but I'm no sure this app will allow exporting to a file/directory and then uploading to the internet. I guess we'll see in 60 days, but my hopes aren't real high :(

Other than this "little" limitation, I'd still considering purchasing the $499 model just to have a "couch web browser" ;)

Maybe a 30-pin extension? I would have to dock it and turn it to see if it was software supported. It may lock into portrait when plugged into the keyboard.

To the OP: You set the thread up to be a positive thread about the ipad and it really could have been. If I didn't already own a netbook I would buy one even though it doesn't meet my expectations. But you really set this thread up to fail when you asked for positive comments only as you were bashing EIC and those you consider as Apple haters. I guess an Apple hater to you is anyone who is ticked off about yesterday's event. So next time you desire a positive thread try keeping your negative thoughts out of it!

I'll definitely be getting one and so will my wife. I don't see it as a replacement for my MBP, but as a device to consume media. We both have Kindles but think the iPad will be a superior eReader so the Kindles will probably get sold or given away. I also see the iPad as a great device to watch video and surf from the couch, which is what I do with my laptop now.

I also do a lot of photography but I don't see the iPad as a great device to do photo editing. From what I can tell, there is no provision for using a mouse or digitizing tablet (USB or Bluetooth) and much of the editing I do may not work well using a finger. I may be wrong about that so some hand-on time with Brushes will be needed.

My wife will use it in her voice-over businesss as a way to read scripts during recording. Currently, she prints them and takes the paper copies into the recording booth to read from. With the iPad, she'll be able to bring up the script and read directly from that, saving time, paper, and ink.

True, there are some shortcomings, but for what it was meant to be (and not be), I think it's a big hit.

I've been very critical of the iPad. A quick look at my office and it looks like a small Apple Store. I guess my negativity, if you'll call it that, is based upon my expectations of what I had envisioned. I wanted the iPad to be more Mac and less iPhone -- or better yet a nice mix of both. I like the idea of "instant Internet", which is what you'll get with the iPad. In many ways, the widgetized apps found on the iPhone are better than visiting a website. Why visit Fedex, when I have an app for that?

I don't read much, so I never bought a Kindle. Since I don't read that much, maybe the iPad will be sufficient for my needs. No eyestrain based upon my paltry reading habits. Last check, it took me 2 years to finish my last book.

So the iPad is a lean, mean Internet machine... it's not going to replace my MacBook Air, definitely not my Mac Pro and for sure not my iPhone 3GS. Is it worth $499 to fill that small gap between iPhone and MacBook Air. Yesterday, I would say no. Today, I'm considering it, but maybe only because I need one for my small Apple Store.

BTW, it's great to see you back here. I hope you'll enjoy your stay this time around and find yourself sticking around.

I'm sorry but if after the keynote you wanted one, go for it, buy it. But for those who are second guessing and maybe forcing themselves to purchase one (why? just to purchase one...), you're wasting your money.

FANBOYS! ;)

It wasn't the keynote that had me reconsidering the iPad. I keep reading those who were at the event talk up how insanely fast it is to browse the Internet. Instant-on, super fast Internet. By no means do I see the iPad for me as being a necessity, considering I have a number of very capable Macs -- for me it would be an expensive accessory to my computing lifestyle. I'm still on the fence, but man do I love me some fast, portable Internet.
