, Phone view came out for the iPhone within days. Somebody will figure it out too.
I returned my original MBA and opted for a Mac Book Pro. About 6-8 months later, I saw a refubished first gen with an SSD and figured I'd take the plunge again. I'm glad I did. The first non-SSD MBA suffered from beach balls and general sluggishness when opening apps. The SSD model has been great. So much so that I sold my Mac Book Pro. The true test was CES, where I used the MBA to live blog the Palm event. I tethered my Nikon DSLR and ran a Photoshop script to batch resize images on the fly. At the same time, live blogging and uploading images. Laptop performed like a champ.
Now, if they can throw another USB port on there and possibly a Firewire, I'll be thrilled. I don't think I could go back to MBP -- although I flirted with the idea of the 13" model. Now more than ever, I feel it's enough for my needs. Would be nice to get a little bump, but I suspect that will be coming soon enough.
i agree with your sentiment regarding the bashing. now that I've tried to step back and see the bigger picture I'm not *quite* as disappointed. However, you are still very much in the minority on multitasking. A non multitasking computer (or smartphone) in this day and age is laughable and what irks me is Apple is only doing it to protect their interests. They let the iPod run in the background because it is running music you probably bought from them, but they don't want to open the door up to you streaming music from slacker, pandora, etc. That is the ONLY reason they don't allow multitasking. Same with flash, they don't want you streaming Hulu, they want you buying TV shows through the iTunes store! It is pure, selfish greed and they are totally crapping on the customers who bring them all this money by not considering their needs in an effort to force you to spend more money through Apple. The reason I felt let down is that this device has so much potential and seeing it run the same OS as the iPhone I think people were expecting great changes in store for the iPhone.
All that said, I can see a potential use for it. I wish the price was a little lower because I still see myself using my MB or iPhone most of the time. I'll probably make a decision later in the year to either buy this or the MBA.
I think the iPad might struggle at first, but will pick up with software updates down the road. This product is a window or gateway for people that don't want to commit to MacBooks(price) or iPhone(contracts.) Just like the ipod touch, this will allow new OS X users to see if they will like macs. I can see (all) computer users in the future have a big bucket (server) that will host all your data (pics, vids, movies, docs) that will be accessed by iPads or slates or laptops/netbooks over networks. This won't replace your tv's or desktops. Is the iPad expensive? Yes, but the iPhone and flat screen Tvs were too when introduced. Will I buy a iPad? Not now (I'm going to wait and see what happens with it in a few months, and I'm saving for a trip to South America) Just my $.02

wouldn't hurt my feelings if flash went away completely and html5 became the standard. but right now i sure wish this thing had flash. if it did and it multitask i wouldn't even be doubting buying it. now i'm kinda 50-50

Im saying that I can keep people from coming into my house when they want to see the entire photoshoot. I just bring my iPad.
Or to potential customers who wants to see some of my work, i ususually show it to them on the iPhone. The iPad would be perfect for displaying my work.
Many of the issues we have with the device are software. Multitasking and flash can be added as a software update for the iPad. For me, that's the most glaring omissions from the iPad. I'm excited about it as an e-reader, video/movies and games...the other stuff is bonus. I don't have a problem with the LED backlit screen or the 30 pin connector. I had a Kindle, but returned it today to make a decision when the iPad comes out. Once I can play with it, I'll either get an iPad or get the Kindle again. I love an e-reader to read...just don't know if the extra cost is worth the iPad. I'll know in late March!
yes, it CAN be added with a software update, just like it CAN be added to the iPhone but hasn't. won't happen. that's why there is so much disappointment negativity I think.

IF iPad runs any iPhone app, iDisk will be available (I have 30GB on the virtual cloud - that's a lot of space to store pictures and access them from anywhere that has wifi-3G. Same for "My gallery". Of course, it involves getting a .me subscription. It's quite worth it.
I'll check with ecamm about PhoneView and the iPad (iPadView?, that doesn't sound any better...) for compatibility/new software.

There are justifiable reasons why the iPad doesn't support flash. It opens the door to many security breaches. apple-hating hackers would love to see flash on the iPhone/iPad. Plus, it's one of the few components in Mac OS X of which Apple has no direct control.
I see multitasking coming soon with a software update, but not flash. We've lived without flash on the iPhone now for how long?
I think folks have had a bit more time to analyze what is good about the iPad. It is a niche product and if you think hard enough you can find some uses for it. While I do love my iPhone the large screen is definitely appealing. I can run some of the same apps as on the phone and enjoy the larger real estate. If jailbreaking is an option the usefulness factor will increase for many of us. I am still not convinced to purchase as it would strictly be a luxury purchase at this time, and I just don't have that kind of expendable cash right now. If I were to purchase I would go for the wifi/3G model though I wouldn't subscribe to any plans unless I needed it ie traveling. I am also a budding amateur photographer and it would be useful in displaying photos instead of printing samples to carry around as I was planning to do.

honda, i am sorry for the poor guy comment i made in the other thread. this link you provided does show some true facts against what i believed about the new ipad. i just wanted to say thanks because now im more neutral towards the ipad rather then completely against it. but I still believe it was hyped up way more then it should have been and is over priced. it is still a good product tho.
That is exactly why I see this product not doing well. If you cannot immediately come up with lots of good uses for it, it's not worth it. For those that saw it and knew exactly how they would use it, fine - enjoy it! Seriously. But if you find yourself digging for ideas on how you'd use it: Um, you probably shouldn't be wasting $500+ on something you don't know what you're doing with it.
