First post
My first post here, it's good to see a thread that is dedicated to people who actually like the iPad. I'm tired of talking about only to have people screaming "FAIL!" "My netbook can run 2 programs at once LOLLOLOL" etc, etc.
Now, with all honesty, I'm not a big Apple fan, not a fanboy by any means, I have an iPhone and that's it. With that, I think the iPad will be absolutely 100% perfect for my needs.
I'm currently in the US Air Force, stationed in Japan, with my family in Seattle. My wife is Japanese, and we end up doing quite a bit of traveling between Japan and the US. I am also a part time (full load) college student finishing up my Bacehlor's Degree as well as Pre-Med requirements. So here's a list of what I will use the iPad for.
1) School, I can use the iPad to replace all of my school books (I looked it up, every one of my current classes as an e-book alternative) and that would have saved me $150 vs buying the used books like I have been doing, and I don't have to deal with selling them back or storing them if I want to keep them (which I do most of the time). The 10hr battery life is something that my laptop can't do (without an expensive aftermarket high capacity battery) and even though I have a convertible touchscreen HP laptop, the touch interface is terrible, even on something as simple as e-books. Windows 7 might be better than other Windows OS's for touch, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone/iPad setup. I get off of work at about 4pm and head straight to class 3 nights a week, and am in school until 11pm. No time to charge a laptop, so the 10hr battery life will be vital.
2) Traveling. I go on a few international flights a year, ranging from 8-12 hours depending where I'm flying to. 10 hours of battery life will be great, and even if I use all that up, I *should* be able to plug in my little $20 Energizer rechargeable iPhone charger and get a full charge out of it.
So obvious college is my big thing, and the fact that I will save so much on books means the iPad will pay for itself in 2-3 semesters. I've tried taking my laptop to class with e-books loaded, and the battery is dead after one class and it's cumbersome to use and the interface sucks.
So I can't wait for the iPad to come out so I can start saving some money!
