honda, i am sorry for the poor guy comment i made in the other thread. this link you provided does show some true facts against what i believed about the new ipad. i just wanted to say thanks because now im more neutral towards the ipad rather then completely against it. but I still believe it was hyped up way more then it should have been and is over priced. it is still a good product tho.
Apologies not necessary, but welcome anyway. The iPad will grow on you!

That is exactly why I see this product not doing well. If you cannot immediately come up with lots of good uses for it, it's not worth it. For those that saw it and knew exactly how they would use it, fine - enjoy it! Seriously. But if you find yourself digging for ideas on how you'd use it: Um, you probably shouldn't be wasting $500+ on something you don't know what you're doing with it.
Dude, you've been bashing people (I think) for liking this thing, now you want to tell us how to spend our money?

this to! this is exactly how i felt! and all the hype there was about it just made me mad the longer i watched the presentation because Apple was saying how great it was yet it was nothing like the hype. so i don't know, you like it and want to get it then get it, you don't then don't get it. No one can really have a TRUE opinion until someone actually has one.

Nope, not at all. I'm not bashing anyone. I'm saying if you know how you'd use the iPad, go for it. There are a lot of people who will get a lot of use out of it. But, IMO, if you're sitting there digging for ways to justify spending money on it -- do you really need it?

Here...here!

Why hasn't somebody taken this time to write a blog post about the iPad. Plenty of passion, let's see some blog posts. It's there for members -- just saying'.:)
yeah, seriously, that excellent blog feature needs to get some use.

Well see, that's what I don't understand. I can easily think of many, many uses for it.

- Browse web on a screen much larger than my iPhone
- Read and respond to email on a much larger screen and have a better keyboard (including a BT keyboard0
- Post to message boards (like this one) much easier
- Watch movies and TV shows on a screen where you can actually see what is going on
- Compose documents in iWorks
- Upload photos from camera using the USB connector

Plus many other functions that I do everyday.

Now I know I could do all this on a laptop, but I don't have a laptop. I don't want a netbook nor a Windows laptop and I can't justify $1000 for a MB. To me the iPad is Apple's netbook. That's the problem with a lot of the bashers, they assume everyone has the same capability that they have with iPhones, MBP's, etc.
There are a lot of people out there just like me who don't have a laptop or netbook and have been wanting a better portable device than the iPhone or Touch or have a Windows laptop or netbook and have been wanting to go with an Apple product. This product fits that niche perfectly.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying. If you have a need for it, great! But I can see a lot of (not all) techies not having much use for it.

I think Apple is hoping the iPads gets the same welcome the iPod did. Keep in mind that when the iPod came out, there were MP3 players in the market for a while already. For some reason, everybody and their grandmother flocked to the iPod even though other devices may have had more features such as FM radio. I think the sales were generated by excellent marketing. That's when the iPod became a household name. I'm wondering what kind of marketing Apple will have for the iPad. It's going to have to be different from the iPhone and iPod touch commercials. I really hope the iPad makes a big impression when launched because there is going to be a battle.

well how about this JUST as a e-reader for example,, a kindle DX JUST reads e-books and plays mp3's thats it ,, cost 489$
the ipad does by FAR nuch more than the kindle DX and it ccost less than 489 and thats just an example,

here are more,, if u wanted a DS,psp,or any high end hand held video gamer its what between 139-199$

so now we have kindle DX +a psp= 489+199= 688$

and thats not even counting all the other things an ipad can do,, iwork, movies (even tho the psp can do that ) but with a 10" screen

i think its worth it , i just wish it had flash or html5

Who ever posted the link to that article thanks. It's completely true. I bought the iPhone day one and I know how much criticism I received from people and from reviews and press. Now everyone and their mothers have an iPhone. Hypocrites....

I believe that multi-task and some sort of flash will be available for this thing before it actually comes out. Apple will eventually get everyone on bandwagon.

First post

My first post here, it's good to see a thread that is dedicated to people who actually like the iPad. I'm tired of talking about only to have people screaming "FAIL!" "My netbook can run 2 programs at once LOLLOLOL" etc, etc.

Now, with all honesty, I'm not a big Apple fan, not a fanboy by any means, I have an iPhone and that's it. With that, I think the iPad will be absolutely 100% perfect for my needs.

I'm currently in the US Air Force, stationed in Japan, with my family in Seattle. My wife is Japanese, and we end up doing quite a bit of traveling between Japan and the US. I am also a part time (full load) college student finishing up my Bacehlor's Degree as well as Pre-Med requirements. So here's a list of what I will use the iPad for.

1) School, I can use the iPad to replace all of my school books (I looked it up, every one of my current classes as an e-book alternative) and that would have saved me $150 vs buying the used books like I have been doing, and I don't have to deal with selling them back or storing them if I want to keep them (which I do most of the time). The 10hr battery life is something that my laptop can't do (without an expensive aftermarket high capacity battery) and even though I have a convertible touchscreen HP laptop, the touch interface is terrible, even on something as simple as e-books. Windows 7 might be better than other Windows OS's for touch, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone/iPad setup. I get off of work at about 4pm and head straight to class 3 nights a week, and am in school until 11pm. No time to charge a laptop, so the 10hr battery life will be vital.

2) Traveling. I go on a few international flights a year, ranging from 8-12 hours depending where I'm flying to. 10 hours of battery life will be great, and even if I use all that up, I *should* be able to plug in my little $20 Energizer rechargeable iPhone charger and get a full charge out of it.

So obvious college is my big thing, and the fact that I will save so much on books means the iPad will pay for itself in 2-3 semesters. I've tried taking my laptop to class with e-books loaded, and the battery is dead after one class and it's cumbersome to use and the interface sucks.

So I can't wait for the iPad to come out so I can start saving some money! :p
