Add Gmail labels so they show in iPhone?

I saw the "labels" (folders) in someone else's iPhone but they won't show up in mine. How do I get them to show in the iPhone so I can sort and save my emails?

I don't see how Gmail labels can appear on the iPhone without IMAP. That said I really want to be able to create folders (and rules!) on my iPhone.

I am now trying Yahoo mail and of course its IMAP folders do show on my iPhone.

Unfortunately Yahoo doesn't seem as good at retrieving mail from other (POP3) accounts as Gmail is. For one thing, it re-downloads mail--terrible behavior. At least I was able to specify a different folder for email received via each pop account--and those folders propagate to my iPhone. But actually "getting" Yahoo to check the pop accounts doesn't seem all the dependable. And when I force Yahoo to check "other accounts" it will re-download mail it has already downloaded. Worse, it makes the email's time-stamp the current time (i.e., not the true time the email was received by the POP3 server--grrrr!).

Gmail with folder/label support would be so much nicer!

I don't want folders. I want labels. They are absolutely not the same thing. Emails can have more than one label, but only one folder. Labels (or tags) are the new way of organizing data now. Folders are so 1990. Apple needs to enter 2007. So very many iPhone features are 5 year old implementations. Sure they are done right, done right for 5 years ago. If Apple was really on the cutting edge they wouldn't be playing catch up for new features. They would be developing new features themselves. Multi-touch is the only cutting edge feature on the iPhone and I think we can all agree that its not much more than a gimic. Apple didn't need to develop that to make the iPhone revolutionary.

I do like my iPhone. But i certainly don't worship it. Besides it crashes constantly.

What is your point? You lost me somewhere between rambling and ranting.

Regardless, I have absolutely no desire to debate labels Vs. folders. Much bigger fish to fry...
