Can I send pictures to another cellphone? I can't seem to figure it out! I want to send the pictures that I am taking with the iPhone to a friend in California.

Depending on the carrier your friend has here is a list of some addresses you could use to email the photo and he/she would receive it as a MMS instead.
found via google:

Alltel
[10-digit phone number]@message.alltel.com
Example: 2125551212@message.alltel.com

AT&T Wireless (now part of Cingular)
[10-digit phone number]@mmode.com
Example: 2125551212@mmode.com

Boost Mobile
[10-digit phone number]@myboostmobile.com
Example: 2125551212@myboostmobile.com

Cingular
[10-digit phone number]@mobile.mycingular.com OR
[10-digit number]@cingularme.com
Example: 4152221212@cingularme.com

Nextel (now part of Sprint Nextel)
[10-digit telephone number]@messaging.nextel.com
Example: 7035551234@messaging.nextel.com

Sprint PCS (now Sprint Nextel)
[10-digit phone number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Example: 2125551234@messaging.sprintpcs.com

T-Mobile
[10-digit phone number]@tmomail.net
Example: 4251234567@tmomail.net

Verizon
[10-digit phone number]@vtext.com
Example: 5552223333@vtext.com

Virgin Mobile USA
[10-digit phone number]@vmobl.com
Example: 5551234567@vmobl.com

I didn't see US cellular on this but I'll add it if I can find it.

I qualify as a dummy as well evidentally because I cannot make this work. For two days i have been trying to email a text to myself using this addy from the previous info (xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net ) and now tried again with the different addy listed above and still cannot get a text to come through to my phone. I can make it work sending to my Alltel phone.

Is there some trick? or something else you have to do? I am sending it as email either from the phone or from my desktop.

Can't use @mms.att.net to the iPhone; need to use @txt.att.net (text of course).

Thanks Mike and dang if it didn't work with either one if that's what you were saying. I just sent 5 or 6 and they worked with both @txt.att.net and also @text.att.net.

So what are those other addy's for that folks ahve been posting for use to do this?

And I also tried to send a pic from the iMac to the phone just to see what happened and nothing came through to even indicate anything was sent. Even tho pics can't be seen like from others I get a text saying go to some website, enter some strange code and password to see some tiny little pic! Some multimedia message or something like that. Trust me I'm new with all this and loving it, having never even had a camera phone , much less a smartphone -- just been waiting for this beauty :).

The person on the other end should be able to send an email to xxx@youremail.com from their mms application on their phone. If this email is configured on your iPhone then it should be received. I have to test this out to confirm, but this has worked where people from other carriers have sent me a text to my email containing a pic.

I know that. The message I responded to was about using xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net to an iPhone, which will not work.

Those are addresses to use when you want to send someone else an MMS from your iPhone, using the Email app (not the SMS app).

Not sure what address you sent it to, but if you use email (not SMS) it should work.

To be clear:
* The iPhone does not support MMS directly.

* If another other party has MMS on their phone you can send MMS messages to them by sending them "email" using the addresses listed in this thread. They will get it as an MMS.

* You can receive photos, or anything else the iPhone recognizes as an attachment, by using whatever email account(s) you have setup on your iPhone.
