it just so happens the iPhone just totally blows the blackberry out of the water!

i totally agree with you.
my wife has a blackberry, and would never look to get rid of it.
of course, she is still trying to get at my iPhone, even she thinks it was a waste of $$.

my iPhone has eclipsed everything my BB needed to do for my businesss... it's on eBay now if anyone wants it...
Yeah, in some ways they perform the same functions but to different degrees. I generally use mine as a "consumer" but I'm able to do things for work as well. So for me it works better.
My dad would never leave home or anywhere without his blackberry, but hes rly in the corporate world, so i see how that works better.

I still have my Blackberry 8800 which does not have a camera. Push email is not that big of a deal. If your life depends on the extra 15 minutes you probably shouldn't be leaving the office in the first place. I wish the speaker were louder, but f*** it they didn't make the phone for just me....I will keep the iPhone and openly and loudly hope they fix it with a software update. Anyone want to buy my 8800?
I have both and love them both for different reasons. The Blackberry 8700 lets me type faster, copy and paste. It also lets me store propsal letters that I can drop in as an attachment, when needed. The iPhone does everythelse great. Just have to push a few more buttons to get there. Will decide in a few days if I'm going to keep it. Battery is not great. My wifi is turned off.

Super fast contact lookup
Intuitive three way calling
Intuitive transfer between phone, speakerphone and bluetooth
Visual voicemail
Very easy to do other tasks on the iPhone during calls
Email:
Quite simple, just the very best rendering and navigation that I have ever used on any mobile device combined with the best screen available. For me, it's the first device that actually displays email that looks good enough for me to actually want to read it.
The Web:
Just like email, it's the very best rendering available combined with a beautiful high resolution display that is simply better than everything else. Once again, it's the first device (including Blackberry's) that the web browsing is so good on that I actually want to use it.
Calendering:
Works flawlessly with Outlook. OK, maybe this is one area where the Blackberry is just as good in my opinion.
So, although it seems to me that many people just categorize the iPhone as an entartainment device, and Blackberry's as businesss phones, I really do believe that this is way to much of a generalization.
If you don't mind waiting up to 15 minutes to be informed of new email, and if you do more email reading on your mobile device than you do writing I would argue that the iPhone is actually better for businesss purposes as well as for entertainment.
Of course, the software does need further integration with MS exchange for some.
Anyway, just my two cents.
I understand your point, but have to point out a couple differences of opinion that I have. To me, the core features of a "Business Phone" are the phone, email, calendaring, and web browsing. In my opinion, the iPhone is actually better than any Blackberry at all four, although I will admit that for email purposes my usage is roughly 80% email reading and 20% email writing. For someone that is writing many emails a day, perhaps a Blackberry would be better but the iPhone is definitely better for reading email. The reasons that I say that it is better for me at all four are:It is funny how folks keep trying to compare the iPhone to a BlackBerry. That is like comparing an Apple to an Orange. I own both an 8700c Blackberry and an 8Gb iPhone. Each function well at what they were intended to do

I see your point. I should have mentioned, my Blackberry runs on an Enterprise Server.
It's just a software change away
I really view current functionality as being simply that. Apple has done a great job getting out base functionality with rev 1.0 in a fairly stable state. Probably a very good decision from a businesss perspective. Hopefully new features will com fairly quickly now.
Now if they would just partner with TomTom or Garmin and release a native GPS based navigation package for use with a bluetooth GPS I would be extremely happy. It's the only thing I really gave up when I switched form my Nokia E61i. I just don't want something like Telenav that requires a cell signal when I'm lost in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully, thats not their intention.
Well, hopefully you will soon be able to attach with your iPhone, to me thats just a simple software interface away unless Apple has other reasons not to add that functionality.

our company is all mac... my uncle the owner used his blackberry for a 3 days and then got rid of it because it did not work well with mac. He has been raving about his iPhone all week... When i got mine, i loaded IMap support on our mail server and it is a very good businesss device... All we need is a small BT keyboard that fits in a iPhone carrying case for sending long emails...

I agree they are not the same thing. One thing I do wish worked on the Apple iPhone, as advertised, was the incorporation of push email via yahoo. I wish that it would work. Yahoo's server is so damn unreliable though that it works about 20% of the time. At the same time, sending and receiving rarely ever works at the same time.
I can't pretend I don't miss by blackberry...I just got rid of my 8800. For what it did it, it did perfect...email. Everything else was just a compromise for me. The calendar was just ok, the contacts were pretty good. One thing I do miss is the profile settings. I used it for meetings, and even at night I had one set up that would filter out biz emails but allow calls or text messages from my kids in case they needed me.
I know the iPhone will get there and I'm willing to deal with the extra steps to get my emails until they do.

I bet you don't miss that camera either ;-) I do miss GPS on the 8800...but I don't miss paying $22 a month for it. Not to mention the extra $$$ for the BB data plan. I will stick with iPhone even if I have to tell everyone around me to shut up if I need to put someone on speaker.....
oh YEAH...i forgot to mention the nav program...but I only paid $10 a month for mine...telenav.
