Annoying transaction message every 10 minutes?

i bought a pre-paid plan for the iPhone since i have no credit with cingular/AT&T yet, and now, everytime i place/receive a call, send/receive an SMS, or go online, i get a notification saying "the last transaction cost 0.00 USD. Your account balance is 49.37 USD." Even if im not using the phone, about every 10 minutes or so, i get that message again. I guess everytime it updates itself or whatever it sends me that message.

Any idea how to turn that off? i really hope there is a way because im going crazy every 10 minutes...

thanks a lot for your help

No joy

I hear you, mate. I've been on Cingular prepaid for a while now and I've had this issue with no less than four different phones. It drives me completely insane.

I must have called Cingular/AT&T at least a dozen times, and each time I'm politely informed that this is a "feature". Proof indeed that some muppet thought this was a good idea and didn't actually check to see how it would feel for the user.

I strongly believe, though, that once Apple gets wind of this they won't stand for it. Lord knows they've had AT&T bend over backwards for them thus far. Other than that, we could start a petition I suppose, and send it to AT&T. Or else we'll have to rely on the hacking community to figure out a "patch" and disable these things. Infuriating...

Just talked to AT&T.
The woman claimed this was a known issue with no estimated time on a fix.
She claimed they are working on fixing it though.

Not Fixed!

Did this problem ever get fixed?

TIA

No it hasn't been fixed yet. And it really sucks. Four weeks with this now; it comes up all the time. I think I've made two phone calls this week so it's totally unrelated to actually using AT&T voice or text message services which is the only reason the balance should be reduced, because the Data Service is a flat fee. What's really annoying is that it comes on in the middle of watching video, and completely stops the movie so it has to be dismissed and then you have to press play again.

I just spent more than an hour on the phone with AT&T. Same story, "Known issue, in work, resolution date unknown, etc." Maybe, but in the meantime I'm not getting what I'm paying for and AT&T apparently has no interest in adjusting my payments. Here are my issues:

- I cannot answer my phone when it rings because I have too many messages to dismiss. Sure, I can call back but is this what you expect from cell phone service?

- If I want to make a phonecall I need to tap "Dismiss" for several minutes before I do so. I counted 228 taps the other day. Ridiculous.

- I'm unable to charge my iPhone at times presumably because the low battery warning message is buried beneath an unknown number of account balance messages. I tried charging with the cradle, without, and USB, no backlight, no sound, no charge, no nothing. Solution: don't use your iPhone for two days and wait for the battery to completely discharge. After this the phone will reset and charge.

- Every ten minutes I get the vibration and audio alert. SMS or useless acount balance info? 99% of the time its the account balance so I don't check and consequently miss messages.

- I receive more than a hundred messages a day. This not only seriously degrades my battery life when the backlight keeps coming on but I can't help but feel that this will wear out my $600 phone's vibrator in a short while.

- Its EXTREMELY ANNOYING! Particularly so for such a state of the art phone.

AT&T gave me a long history of how this came to be, which I have no reason to doubt, but the bottom line is its just noise. Give me what I pay for or solve the problem!

This is utterly unacceptable and needs more coverage.

Very dissatisfied

so annoying!

I can totally comply with you. I don't understand what the person who thought this up was thinking. I mean this phone is really sick but its like tainted with all these little annoyances. I hope they get worked out soon.
