Hey all!

I'm new to the forums and I have been an iPhone fan since it was announced at MacWorld. I'm really sorry if this has been posted before, but has there been any word on if/when a new version of the iPhone will be released? Will they be available to purchase, say, in August? Right now I'm on the fence about buying one tomorrow. I would love to buy one from Apple.com but I'm afraid that if I do, another, better, version will be out in 6 months and my $600 iPhone will be obsolete. As of right now it's a "game time" decision tomorrow on whether I buy my iPhone. I may or may not purchase one but I'm REALLY in love this thing! Thanks in advance! I love the forums by the way, Cheers!

Apple will be working on their new OS so I doubt there will be a new iPhone any time soon.

I heard a new iPhone is being released tomorrow.. 6 PM to be exact.

Haha! yes there's a rumor about that going round...lol.

"Apple will be working on their new OS so I doubt there will be a new iPhone any time soon."

yes that's what I thought too but I'm so worried about it that I may not buy one tomorrow because of it

Do you think that they will drop the price anytime in the near future? I would think not because iPods have not dropped in price since the Zune launched. Will there be ample supply to purchase online from Apple.com?

There's really only a couple of things that can't be upgraded via an iTunes software update: 3g and gps. Many of the other things people are complaining about (MMS, video camera, etc) I would think could be added at anytime by Apple.

Do you think they will add these features over time or just let it be for a few years? If they leave it unchanged for a couple of years, I'll buy one online tomorrow! I can smell my credit card burning right now actually...:laugh2:

As far as the gps and 3g? I really don't know. Apple is notorious for releasing new ipod versions often. But people have brought up good points as to why the V1 iPhone will be the norm for a while (Leopard, the 2 yr contract, etc).

Excellent points. Man I'm *this* close to ordering one online tomorrow! I swear my credit card is crying, I can hear it.

this is my own 2 cents:

first off- i don't think there will be a new iPhone released in U.S. for atleast a year, reason being if they release one within 6 months or soon after everybody that bought iPhone 1.0, most of the people that will want an iPhone 2.0 will have bought 1.0 and they will still have atleast 1 year or more on their 2 year contract.

second- if you look at ipod prices, they have been the exact same since they came out, they have gotten better every version that comes out, but the price has been the same

Thanks for your input!

I am on the same thinking track as you. I don't think they will unveil a new iPhone in 6 months because of the contracts people will have but I'm still worried that Apple will really listen closely to what consumers are saying needs to be changed, updated, etc and they will do it asap so they can push more units. The last thing I need is a $600 phone that is "obsolete" in 6 months. Can most, if not all, of the iPhone software be updated to meet the standards?

Now, I have taken the iPod prices into consideration and I believe that the iPhone price will remain unchanged for a while. Although I think it's a hefty price for a phone, I was looking at the Nokia N95 at $679.00 and the LG "Prada" phone at $799.00 and the iPhone looks like a steal compared to those 2. Oh and don't get me started on the Nokia 8800 which retails at $999.000! But I am afraid that because iPods and iPhones, as much as they are the same, are 2 different products that the iPhone will follow the path of cell phones becoming "old tech" in 6 months. If Jobs comes out and states that this will not happen then I'll have a iPhone in my hands in no time flat.

When I bought my G1 20gb iPod, which I still use today, it cost well over 450 dollars.

Oh well then I stand (or I guess sit in this case) corrected :) The first iPod I bought was a G4 (I believe) and it was $300. I thought the previous models were also that amount but I guess not, my fault.

I don't think that they will release a new version of the iPhone any time soon because of Leopard and the fact that they are probably going to design a new iPod next.
