 just had to vent, I have been waiting on ICHAT, flash, cut and paste, deleting multiple emails along with a few other simple but basic and important features since early july after purchasing this freakin phone! is that really too much to ask for Stevie? I'm just stumped at this point, racking my brain as to why these basic features are still not implemented on a $600 device, Christ, what are they thinking?! this latest update SUCKS!
I'll tell you what they're thinking. Their products are selling like hot cakes and their stock is skyrocketing so they don't see any signs that tell them their doing anything wrong.

Well it certainly seems that Apple can do nothing right from the way people are posting in here. This update was so big (file size) because the all of the code was encrypted now as is the iPod Touch. The Touch has not been cracked yet and now the iPhone will be just as hard. If and when it does get cracked, those who decide to hack their phone or mod it will be in the same boat as each update gets released. We will then have all these people posting these same old tired threads and it will never end.
personally I think you're dreaming. Why did you update? Its your fault100%!
I did not update and I have my phone in all its 3rd party app glory!
What a useless comments from someone who knows better. You've been around this site long enough to know what you were getting into. Tough sh!t.

Is it too much to ask for? Probably not. But do you need to step back from the ledge? Absolutely, dude!

There's not a single feature on your list that was in any announcement or ever promised. You're freaking out and demanding stuff that you KNEW WASN'T THERE. You are just expecting stuff because YOU expect it. Um, relax.

Nobody is paying me or anyone else anything to post here. But the people trying to talk you off the ledge are trying to say that you're being irrational in your approach. Sure, I think we all HOPE that some day we'll get things like cut & paste, Flash and other things that might exist on other phones or PDA's. But nobody should have bought this phone expecting things to be there that were documented as not being there and then getting righteous after-the-fact and going potty-mouth on the company and CEO that never said you would get these things. Maybe you'd be happier with a Windows Mobile 6 device and you could burn Bill Gates in effigy because it doesn't support iTunes or have a slick UI like other new devices?

seriousely, how much are they paying u dude? You are welcomed to tell me to stop crying when I start spending YOUR money. For $600, (well $500) do u really think that is too much to ask for?. Apple obviousely are aware of the fact that the iPhone as was originally sold is a rippoff considering that a $100 mobile phone comes standard with a lot of features missing from the iPhone, The fact that they are constantly updating the device is proof of this, I just don't understand why we cant get basic functionality instead of new ways to purchase mp3's etc. I am a huge Apple fan!, every single laptop I have owned was an Apple, I just don't understand what the heck happened with the iPhone.

It's a lot more than just $500.

Lest everyone forget, you're also paying ~$350 in bounty and royalties to Apple over your two year contract. Money that's supposed to go towards super updates.

That's millions each month that Apple is getting. For that, there should be amazing upgrades.

My little software team at work seems to do more coding/fixing in a week than they do in months.

Heck, third parties have done wonders in weeks on the iPhone, WITHOUT AN SDK.

Man... I am going to sue my realtor! I've had this new house for three whole months now, and that pool I thought it was going to have still hasn't materialized in the back yard! I mean, I didn't ask if it had a pool, and I didn't see one when I was house shopping, but all the other houses around here have pools, so I figured this one had to have one... so I spent $200,000 to buy the house assuming it was going to have a pool... and now it still doesn't!

Jeez, calm down. The iPhone has been out for how many DAYS now, and they've already released a fairly significant update? The new features may not impress you, but there are a lot of people that are excited about some (if not all) of them.

There's a ton of information about the iPhone online. Hell, people were literally dissecting them within hours of it being released! If the iPhone you bought didn't meet your needs, then shame on you for being an uneducated consumer. There's just no excuse. If you just couldn't live with the phone in its stock form, maybe you should have looked for another product, or waited for a few updates before purchasing.

The entitlement some of you feel is nothing short of amazing (a problem that isn't limited to iPhone world). Push back from the keyboard, step outside, and take a walk. You're gonna make it through, somehow. ;)

FYI. For me the augmentation of the phone volume did not work. Did it work for anyone here?

Yes. It worked just fine.

And for the record, the whole update worked just fine, too. I'm happy with it.

What I want to know is, am I the only person on this forum who doesn't have a burning desire for custom ringtones? This seems to be everyone's obsession from what I can tell, and I could care less. Oh well.

I'm with you. I've been pretty surprised by the apparent "NEED" for ringtones. I had no idea it was such a big deal.

As I said on another board, that Apple might have had the stuff you wanted in this update, but they had to spend much time on locking the phone down to 3rd party apps so that nobody got what they really wanted.

It is apparent that Apple wants the phone locked and they are going to do everything to keep it that way.

If Apple can devote 100% of its time to new features and bugs fixes, then maybe we will see some new apps and features.

But for everyone who insists on unlocking the phone, you are only delaying the updates we need.

Each time the phone gets unlocked, Apple will have to spend more time getting it locked back down.

They must think the iPhone is pretty important, remember they did pull people off Leopard to work on the iPhone.

If you are impatient, just sell you phone and wait until the features you want are there.

In the meantime, I will enjoy using my phone.

Out of curiosity, are there other phones with IMing capability? I can understand cut and paste, MMS, multiple SMS...

You're not the only one. I'm amazed at the interest in ring tones. I couldn't care less.

I don't know how these people can handle their home and office phones since they can't customize their ring tones :)

I generally think you have it right here. Except that people will not stop trying to get in, and for Apple to keep fighting them is a fool's errand.

The comment about pulling people off Leopard is rightly phrased in the past tense.

Please continue to enjoy your phone. From the number of posts u have I'm guessing you are still a starry-eyed newbie who hasn't endured months of frustration waiting for the most basic of bug fixes to no avail. Enjoy the honeymoon.

The problem with this comparison is that we're not asking for luxuries here. Most smartphones that cost the same price point have cut and paste capabilities. Most houses have doors between rooms. This feature is a proverbial door that is missing, and it's a feature that would increase productivity and ease of use.

Ironically, your analogy is backwards... the iTunes store on the phone is more of a "swimming pool" than cut/paste.

Working for a wireless provider, if you had access to the demographic profile of users who purchase 90+% of ringtones and wallpapers, you would understand :)

It's all in the "bling" factor. Unimportant to me but important enough to some to generate huge profit margins for the carriers. For every one of us who really couldn't care less about a ringtone other than that it can be heard, there are 20 who are more than happy to part with $3 to have their phone ring with Akon singing Smack Dat :) To this crowd, the .99 Apple solution is a significant bargain.
