AT&T is crazy....

So I have a plan with AT&T in which the contract ends on 12/28/11, and the text message I get for eligibility options tells me I'm eligible for a 4S upgrade on 4/30/2012. How does this make any sense?

Has this situation happened to anyone else?

I was with my brother on one account. He failed to pay the bill like 4-5 times and as a result our service got cut off every time, but he did end up paying them. I think this is why they made the date so late.

HOWEVER, I just recently (last week or so) branched off into my own account now under my own name. But they're still giving me that 4/30/12 BS. It makes no sense, how are you gonna give me an eligbility date 5 months after the contract ends?

I am very unhappy with this.

I upgraded in December of 2010, and am eligible for an upgrade February of 2011.

I want the 4S so much! But yet I love my 4. But I am the tech dude at school, and I can't have someone else getting the 4 for $100. So then someone would have an equal great phone as me. But I bet nobody has an iPad 2 and iPod touch.

Definitely strange, maybe it's just a mixup. Call AT&T and get it sort it out.

They pretty much told me that the reason it was pushed back was because I didn't pay my bill on time. Which I didn't do ONCE. The guy at the score was really really cool though and straight up told me that I can end my contract for $65 and sign a new contract with a new number and get the iPhone 4s for 199. I told him I'd think about it but I'm gonna go back later today and do it. So there is a way out after all..

I read that no matter what day of the month it says you should be able to upgrade on the 1st of that month. I'd try to do it November 1st and see what happens.

It's because of the amount of their monthly bill (they may have 950 minutes and pay more than $100 before taxes) or that they are on a family plan. I'm on a single plan with 450 minutes and got an iPhone 4 in June '10 and I wasn't eligible for full subsidization until Nov 18th. I paid partial subsidy pricing.

Yeah, that's what I heard too. The att rep told me this after I called to complain a few times, and acted like she was doing me a favor.

Seems like normal timing to me.

Not sure I follow this. You signed a 2 year deal. If they will let you get a subsidized price in November thats a great offer.

Do you mean a partially subsidized phone?

Also anyone can get a 4S. Buy full price, sell your 4. Might not be ideal way but it works.

Did you not see the part where I said people who bought theirs 2 weeks before me can get theirs Friday? Where's their 2 years?
