Just back from my local AT&T store and they have'nt heard of any of the plans or syncing. I steered them towards the web site and now they are watching . he told me he has training tomorrow at noon. I also notice one new employee there...a security guard

I stopped by my local AT&T here in Fishers, IN and the sales rep said I either needed to A) be eligible for an upgrade or B) sign up an additional line to my family plan. I calmly told her that I've seen the activation video online and that any customer (existing or not) should be able to buy the iPhone. She again told me options A and B.

So then I asked her what is stopping me from buying an iPhone at the Apple store and then activating it at home through iTunes just as I see in the video. She replied, "it won't work because you are not in your upgrade period".

It's just funny that this information has been available all day, yet we know more then the sales reps do. I wish they would get a clue sometime!

Well, that's pretty typical. Not everyone is going to be up-to-date just hours after the information was disseminated. Had it been release day and reps still clueless, that would have been a different story.

It's a good thing AT&T didn't wait until release day to release this or customers would have been flipping out.

But you at least expect the reps to have seen the videos that Apple has put out today. The entire internet is talking about it.

After calling around to a couple of other stores in the area, it seems that some stores are at least "getting it". That the customer will come in, purchase the phone, and leave. He/she will then go home and activate it on his/her own through iTunes. I think even after the reps are "trained", some will still have a hard time with this concept. They have always been taught to sell sell sell. That they are the ones that activate service. Not anymore!
