How can I attach a photo that I have downloaded from my iPhone to iPhoto on my MacBook Pro to a gmail email that I am composing in Safari?

You can drag and drop from iPhoto into the Safari with Gmail. Gmail has a file size limit, so make sure it's not too big. Good luck.

If you use the Mail.app for OS X you can simply view the picture you want to send in iPhoto and click the share button.
