I always wished NFC would pan out but as the creators of Loop put it
This company ingeniusly developed an emission device using a technology they call Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) that basically uses similar technology to what is used in Inductive charging (like powermat) to simulate the swiping motion of a card. So you just hold this thing next to the mag swiper, choose your card on the phone, and it registers as a swipe! Don't wanna say it, but this is an NFC killer from where I'm sitting. Check it out!

"Store owners have no incentive to change their systems to accept new technologies that few consumers are using, and consumers are not going to adopt a solution that they can’t use where they shop every day. So no merchant adoption equals no consumer adoption – it’s a deadlock."
