I don't have to do any tests to know that it's super slow. A couple sites took forever to load. It's cool though I can deal with it because this phone is super radical!

Personal test results

188.4 kilobits per second
Communications 188.4 kilobits per second
Storage 23 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 44.5 seconds

Actually not too bad considering that its EDGE. I had a Sony VAIO UX series that had a built in EDGE data card. That was pretty slow too, but livable, and it cost me $59 per month. I was expecting ISDN like speeds (128kbps) so you can imagine that I am thrilled with 188.4kbps, and for only $20 per month. A bargain by comparison.

I'm perfectly fine with the speed right now! It will be cool when 3G comes out, I'll be all over that phone!

I haven't actually tested, but when I have five bar signal strength the speed is okay... the lower the bars, the slower EDGE is.

I also think it's a matter of being a little realistic. This is really the only phone that does REAL web browsing... mobile internet on your Razr might have been faster, but it was only delivering text.

And for e-mail delivery it's sufficient.

I figure I'll do most of my web surfing via WiFi unless I find I'm stuck in an area without access to it... and then, I'll only be accessing to look up something I really need right then and there. I won't be sitting in my car away from home just surfing for the heck of it :)

I tested a Verizon Moto Q on EVDO side by side with my iPhone. While the Q was definitely faster, what set the iPhone apart is how well the pages render & quickly it is to navigate through a page. By the numbers, my Q was much faster than my iPhone, but I find the web browsing experience much better & more effective on the iPhone. It's definitely a case of the numbers not really telling the whole story.

the only time i've experience slow EDGE browsing was this morning for about an hour. otherwise its been almost as fast as my wifi connection! even when it goes a bit slower, i am proud to say that i can get any webpage i want within a minute and anywhere i want (south rural texas). I am quite satisfied with my toy!

Can live with, but hate that You Tube compresses video with EDGE.

At least I'm getting the typing thing down.
