battery charge time

If I may jump in here....
Does it make any difference if you charge the iPhone from a wall outlet or from a computer?

you know, i had mine plugged into the computer last night while syncing and got a full charge with the little plug icon in the battery, tonight i had it plugged in the wall for a longer period of time and never got that plug icon in the battery, just the fully colored battery, weird, huh?
That is odd.
I just plugged mine in to charge off my MacBook Pro. I'll post up exactly how long it took when it's finished. I'll try the wall method next time and compare results.

Yeah i don't think it gets the same current through USB 2.0 as it does the wall. So it figures that the wall will be the best charging method. I noticed this with my ipod.
How do you know when the iPhone is charging?
Hello all,
I seem to be having problems getting my iPhone charged passed the less than 5% mark.
Last night I had i plugged into the wall jack with the supplied plug.
It never went fully charged after at least 8hrs of what I thought was wall charging.
This morning it is still at less than 5%
It is now plugged directly into my G5 tower and here is what I see when I tap the home button to wake it momentarily:
- empty battery graphic with only the red charge indicator. most of the batter is empty (95%)
- I see a black and white icon on top right corner. a "plug" icon.
- what does it mean when u see a lightning rod icon on the top right?
- How do I know I am charging it correctly?
this is my first ipod device.
any help to a newbie like me appreciated.

Similar issue here.
No matter how long I leave it plugged in - whether I use the wall or the USB, whether I leave the phone off or on- I never get a full battery. It gets close, but not full, and then just stays there.

yes my but my issue is that it's still in the red after hours of plugged in charging either on my Mac or wall socket.
I only have less than 5% on the battery.
FWIW, with Blackberries they take much longer to charge via USB than through the wall wart. I'm not totally convinced the iPhone behaves the same way, but what I've seen so far would suggest it.
If your iPhone is connected to a Mac laptop thats running off of it's batteries, it's not like to charge due to the power management of the laptop.
If your iPhone is connected to a peripheral, such as a keyboard, or non-powered hub, it may not charge as well as plugging it directly into the computer.

I don't think there is a fully charged icon. The bar will just show 100% green when its charged all the way.
the first time i charged it, it took a while, but i got a full charge.
so i used it a ton to get it to drain the battery completely yesterday. plugged it into the wall when i went to bed around 4 30 am, woke up around noon and it still wasn't charged? wtf is up with that. i even had the phone off.

There is. It looks like a "plug" in the battery icon rather than a lightning bolt.
It's in the manual. Never actually seen it in person though . . .

maybe, I am reaching here, but try this: connect the plug to the iPhone, then plug it into power/USB?
Mine was at 15% and it took 8 hrs to charge! That's way too long IMO. Maybe the initial charging takes longer?
