I am on my second iPhone because of battery life. My 1st iPhone had to be charged every day. Maybe I would get 4 hours and 30 minutes of usage, with 12-14 hours stand by before it died. Took to local Apple store(past the 2 week exchange period) and the changed it out that day no questions asked.

My second phone was much better, at the beginning. I would get 4 hours usage and almost 2 days stand by before charging. The last couple of days have been terrible. Yesterday I has 4 hours usuage and 12 hours stand by and it died. Majority of the time I was sending SMS and checking/sending e-mail. Today I checked/sent e-mail again and sent some SMS-nothing else. I currently have the following:

2 hours and 26 minutes usage and 10 hours 30 minutes stand by....50% battery left.

Seems like the usage/stand by time are getting the same as my 1st phone(which the Apple store exchanged no questions asked)

Anybody have suggestions? I really like all aspects of my iPhone with the exception of the battery life.

I am on my third iPhone because of battery life too. I really don't get it either because I read on this forum about people getting 5 to 6 hour usage time, but I have never gotten more than 3 or 4 and it's really upsetting. It's also really annoying to replace the iPhone because I have to drive 45 minutes to the Apple store to take it back and then I have to reapply my InvisibleShield which is a big hassle.

Have you tried turning off WiFi when you're not using it? I know that helps.

Are you guys making phone calls from behind Air Conditioning units or huge metal obstacles?

The amount of power your phone uses to contact the nearest cell tower is variable. The power drain changes as it's needed to compensate for a weak signals in certain areas.

This variable is always overlooked when people bring up their battery life. I have horrible reception at home, and my battery goes quicker than at the office where I have full bars.

I think you should be looking at averages, and how close you come to those rather than rating against someone who lives next to a cell tower and never leaves their house. They'll always post higher numbers.

Sorry about your problems. Sounds like something is wrong. I know you probably already figured that out, but your thread prompted me to check where I am at:

2hr 50min usage and 13.5 hours standby with just over 3/4 of battery time left. I could probably dupe the usage tomorrow and charge on the third day.

Wi-fi on all the time, email check every 15, brightness on 100%.

Again, I know this doesn't help out much, but it might confirm that your battery life is below acceptable.

Have your tried a hard reset to the phone yet (hold down sleep/wake button +home button)? If that doesn't work, try a full restore to the phone (via iTunes). I've had 3 phones replaced already due to bad battery life. My last phone went dead after 16 hrs standby and ZERO usage. My current iPhone (about a week and a half old) started out with great battery life and has since been getting worse and worse. I finally did a hard reset a few days ago and my battery life has improved drastically. Hope that works for you. If not, take the phone back. I know you really like all the aspects of the phone you have now (exception being the battery), but you'll totally regret it later if it ends up that you do indeed have a bad battery. You're much better off with a new phone than a refurbished one. Good luck!

Battery Life

For all rechargeable batteries it is not a bad idea to completely drain the battery and completely recharge it with the power off. It is not a bad idea to do this once a month.
