Again, there are threads discussing this. Just a friendly reminder, try to look around at some other threads.

On the subject matter, though, you can check out the battery specs on Apple's iPhone page.

The specs on Apple site are pretty straight forward. There is still a rumor floating around that the iPhone will have 2 batteries. Presumably, one battery for cell phone functions and one for iPod functions. We will just have to wait and see to know the truth though.

I thought that was just a Pre announcement rumor from Digg or engadget
Yeah me too, but I have read many posts on other forums from members that are convinced that it is true. If I have to lay odds, I would say the rumor has about a 25% chance of being true.

I really hope it is true though. It would be nice to know that you can listen or watch your media until the iPhone runs out of juice and still be able to make and receive calls.

That was from that Kevin Rose drunk rant about the iPhone on his show

A little recap of all his "inside info"

  • Extremely small form factor
  • Two battery design (with single charger) -- one for playing music, the other for phone functions
  • Flash memory: 4GB for $249, 8GB for $449
  • "Slide-out keyboard"
  • Possibly touchscreen
  • Likely launch with a 'singular GSM carrier' with CDMA and other GSM to follow

That was the first time I heard the 2 battery rumor, but not the last. Here is an article that also claims the iPhone has two batteries.

Such is the remarkable efficiency of the stunning widescreen display, Xscale ARM (RISC) CPU, onboard memory, Flash storage and surprisingly large dual batteries which dominate the interior space of the iPhone enclosure.

Unless you end up with the rare defective unit, your battery life will hold out fine under normal use. I wouldn't let any fears about the battery discourage you from buying one.

Enjoy!

I surf the net every break and my whole lunch. I check e-mails throughout the day and make phone calls.
Not to mention watching some vids and listening to the Ipod.
I can't imagine this battery not being good enough for anyone, unless they plan on watching a full length movie to start their day and then doing a bunch of other stuff.

You should be able to make it for at least a day no matter what you plan on doing with it.

I got my iPhone last night and used it quite a lot today to see how the battery would hold up. I used the web browser with mostly wifi for an hour and a half easily. Listened to the ipod for about 45 mins, watched a couple youtube videos here and there and talked on the phone for about 45 mins.

Took the iPhone off the charger at 830 this morning got back from work around 530. Had a little less then half battery and this was on about 40% brightness.

Definitely a lot better then I thought.

My battery life has been great so far. I typically check email during the day, surf the internet every now and then, receive a bunch of text messages and listen to the ipod for probably 3-4 hours a day and I charge mine about every other day. I've been very impressed with it. Now that my battery has been broken in, I'm going to try and get some exact stats to measure and post over the course of a week.

I know there are threads with battery life info dispersed through them. But I thought I would start a thread for people like myself that have developed battery problems.

It may be coincidence, but I have had 2.5 days + standby on my iPhone since May 2007, and after the last update I am luck I get through a whole day without getting the 10% battery warning.

I only make a couple of calls per day and look up an item or two on the internet. Not much ipod or video use lately.

Problem seemed to start after last update.

1) I have tried to let it run out completely and then recharge it.
2) I have everything turned off, wifi.. mail autocheck etc.

Is your phone jailbroken, and if so, have you installed anything around the time you noticed the decrease in battery life? A lot of software from Dock to SSH to well... just about anything that stays running on a consistent basis will use up battery life. Also have you recently turned on WiFi where you previously had it turned off? It is constantly sending out a signal looking for a suitable network to attach to.

I have about 8 apps installed on my phone. I have set email to manual, and I have wifi turned on at all times. I have version 1.1.2. The phone gets light usage usually. I usually charge my phone every other day, and when I do it's never less than 30 or 40%. That's why I'm wondering if it's something specific that's causing your problem, such as a specific 3rd party app. I doubt the upgrade did anything since I have the latest firmware as well. Then again you might not even have a jailbroken phone so I can't really say.
