My iPhone often loses up to 25% of battery life when not being used overnight - this isn't normal surely?

What do you have on in the background? When you're asleep, it's probably a good idea to turn wi-fi, 3g and location services off, as these are known to drain battery.
Alternately, you can just put the phone on Airplane Mode, which will just disable all network services on your phone, whilst maintaining other functionality such as Alarms for the morning etc.

25% is not normal. Do a search - there are a few threads in this forum that go into this issue in detail.

There's a lot of stuff you can do to preserve battery life, but 25% overnight is too much in the first place.
