Best Buy Protection Plan vs Manufacturer's Extended Warranty

I'm trying to decide which route to go with my wife's Sony camera. Sony's 3-year warranty is $50. If there is a problem, they offer a pre-paid shipment and will repair at no cost. I'm not sure of the particulars, since they offered it to me over the phone.

Best Buy's plan is probably in some way backed by Sony. Now if for some reason they cannot fix it, they'll offer you a comparable product. That sounds appealing, but in reality, is the camera going to be so broken that it cannot be fixed. There is of course the convenience of dropping it off at any Best Buy. However, talk of Best Buy not being around in a few years has me a bit leary.

Anyone have experience with the Best Buy plan? How'd it go?
