My nieces (3 1/2 and 2 1/2) are always playing with my phone. They're bored of the games I have for them. Any recommendations for good apps for young children? I would prefer free apps, if possible. Thanks in advance!

The older one likes the coloring app I have a lot, and the Barbie apps. The younger one laughs her butt off at Talking Gugl and tries to play Sally's Spa, which even I find hard! I think she just likes the icon. I'll look into the Dr. Suess apps, thanks imutter! Any more suggestions, I'd love to hear them :)

SmackTalk is one that my daughter adored when she was really little (and for a long while). It's nothing like the name might suggest. It's a great little sound effects app where cute a little hamster, puppy, and cat (one at a time, kids choice) mimic everything you say in ridiculously cute and funny voices. They mimic everything, including the fits of laughter the app will induce in both kids and adults.

It's not free, but well worth it's 99 cent price tag in my book.

App Store link.

Cool. Another good one if they're starting on games is the Crazy Penguin Catapult series (Lite, full, and a couple other variants I think). Easy to play, fun concept, and nice animation and sounds. Another one my daughter liked a bunch. Now she is all of 8 and is of course far too grown up and sophisticated for these. Instead we have Selena Gomez apps on her shared iPad. :(
