Bracing for Hurricane Irene

So the news doesn't appear to be very good for the east coast. If I weren't near the water, I'd be less concerned. The media has everyone in a frenzy, which has me sort of in a frenzy. What am I supposed to do with all my stuff?

Anyone else in the path of Irene?

She is barreling down on me as well in South Jersey. I am not really worrying about my stuff, maybe to a point of fault, but it may be a good weekend for a roadtrip to Pittsburgh. Ugh.

We are currently renting a house across that is across the street from a canal. Winds are one thing, but water is quite another.

I can't believe there saying this storm is gonna be crazy up where I am in Hudson valley... I'm not near any water! The winds are going to get us... Gonna bring in anything that could pose a danger outside... Tying down the hatches! Stay safe everyone!

It's the heavy furniture that's impossible to move. Computers, pictures and that sort of stuff we'll likely move on Saturday. I'm hoping this thing veers off course before then. High tide is at 9:50 am on Sunday, which is precisely the time when they predict the storm will be in full motion.

I'm going to move the wife, cats and computers if things get crazy here.

Just got off the phone with my insurance company. We don't have flood insurance (most likely don't), but they won't sell you flood insurance due to Irene. So, if you wanted coverage, you're out of luck. Nice of them.

I'm guessing the homeowner has flood insurance, in a worse case scenario.

Grocery stores are going crazy here in southern Chester county. I don't blame people thou, better to be safe than sorry. I'm seriously worried about my roof, I was planning on restoring the one side of the house that the previous owners didn't fix properly, I might wake up with water stains on my ceiling on Monday. that's why you don't hold things off.

Ugh I have an 80 year old house - just bought 2 years ago. Brand new roof was put on so hopefully that will be OK. But I am worried about it structurally. Going to take the toys (tech), fiance, and dog to sisters house. Hers is much newer with a big brick basement.

Looks like me and you will get the worst of the winds, 100mph. we are debating if we should all leave or not, maybe go towards Harrisburg.
Long island might get impacted with the eye of the storm. and wind gust up to 60mph and higher chances of tornados. Chris, can you move couple hours inland, like rent a hotel or something?

After living at Ground Zero for Charlie here is what I can quickly advise:
GAS for your vehicle. Get it now. Power goes out... no gas
CASH: no power, no banks or ATM's
Water: load up on it if possible. When you think you have enough, double or even triple the amount! (filling the tub is a good idea also. That's a great backup supply.
Zip lock bags: get the big ones for important papers, medications, etc...
ID: ALWAYS have at least 1 form of identification on you at all times. If it gets bad enough to evacuate, they probably won't let you back into severely damaged areas without a minimum of 1. For PT. Charlotte and Punta Gorda areas, after Charlie, you had to have 1 ID and at least one piece of mail, preferably a utility bill.
Video / Photograph everything NOW. Try to get serial numbers etc... If possible.

As more things pop into my head I will post them for you all. Some of this may seem to be overkill, but DON'T wait until the storm is an hour away and go ' Oh Crap ' !

And if you even think you may have to evacuate, don't wait until the last minute to do so. Roads get real packed and no one ends up anywhere

I'm on the other coast ( Tampabay area) and we are getting some rain and maybe 15 - 20 mph winds... So far a normal day for us.
