Buttons stopped working

All of a sudden my power and volume buttons stopped working on my 3GS. It sounds too coincidental that this could be a hardware failure on both controls at the same time. I can't hard reboot without the power button. Any thoughts?

What happens when you plug the phone into charge? What about when you connect it to iTunes?
Home button still works? Is phone on or off right now.

Home button works. iTunes works. Everything but these two. Buttons.

Have you dropped the phone recently? I would make a genius appointment with Apple and take it in.

It may problem with flex cable.You may check it.One of my friend have faced same problem.Then he contact with iPhone support care and they found that it was problem with flex cable.If it is then notify.

I'm not sure what the flex cable is, but if it is inside the phone, then that was it. I took it in and the Genius at the Apple store reconnected it and all is well. Thanks for the guidance.
