My daughter chose the duck ringtone for her contact (and she calls me often, I"m about done with that darn duck) and every time she calls me SHE hears the duck quacking too. As far as I know she's the only person that hears their assigned ringtone when they call me.
Does anyone tell you that they hear the ringtone when they call you?
Not here but all of my other phones are with Sprint. Sprint lets you
pay to do this, and naturally my daughter has her ring setup like that.
They only started it about a year or so ago, so maybe AT&T is planning something like that too. In her case it's a song and originally it was quite confusing--it almost sounded like the call was going straight to VM. Guess I wasn't the only one who felt this way as Sprint now prefaces the call tone with something like, "Please enjoy this call tone from Sprint..."
I originally doubted that it could even work, as I thought a lot of that "ringing sound" was not even under Sprint's control. Yet I have been all over the country, in areas where Sprint doesn't even have service, but when calling my daughter's phone, from any phone, that darn call tone still plays.
Anyway, maybe AT&T is gearing up to do something similar. Still, I'm almost certain this is done via the network, not the handset. If your iPhone is doing it, before actually answering the call, I'd say it had to have somehow notified AT&T about the ringtone.
