Everytime I try to update my iPhone4 i tunes says session timed out. How can I update my phone?

There's a slight possibility the Internet is cutting out. Is your computer hooked up to wifi? And what version of iTunes are you running?

4.2.1 I am using wifi but it happens every time it will all load but when it goes to put it on my phone it says it times out

Can you just try downloading the update first without installing on your phone?

It says there was a problem downloading the soft ware for your iPhone and network connection timed out

Try looking at this thread, find the appropriate firmware / IOS and download it on your computer. When you plug into iTunes, you should be able to do a shift & right click on the device to select the file you downloaded. Maybe this will work for ya.

This is why I usually find the newest version of iOS for my particular iPhone and download it first. Then I hold the SHIFT key when I click “Update” and it allows me to navigate to wherever I chose to save that download and use it to update my iOS software.

I tend to download them as well. I even have 4.3.4 and don't ever plan on using it.
