Does it matter?

Your going to need a card to sign up for an iTunes account which is required to activate the phone. I;m not spending nine hour sin a line with $600 cash in my pocket.

I will be using a Card because I get 1% back on purchases and double the manufacturers warranty.

Was thinking the same thing. I started my iTunes account with my g/f card. So I don't expect any trouble activating my iPhone

Better be careful, I suspect that your monthly bill will automatically charged to whatever card is on the iTunes account. Your g/f might be in for a surprise when she gets her bill.

You don't need a credit card to have an iTunes account.
Umm, yes, yes you do. As of iTunes 6 I believe you can not create and iTunes account without a credit card. You also can not get cover flow without an account, which is the only reason why I signed up for one.

Now if you have a really old iTunes account maybe you never needed a credit card but if you are creating a new account you will need one. And if you have an old account I am almost certian that you will have to attach one to your account to be able to actuvate the phone.

Well the other thing is that I have an Apple ID. So shouldnt that allow me to activate it. Or do they charge you per month for iTunes...and how much is that?

If I send someone with cash to buy one for me at an ATT/Cingular store (what a nice friend, right?!) will that be ok, do you think? Because I can activate it at home through iTunes. Will they want my iTunes account info at the store or will my friend just be able to hand over the cash and get the phone?

You may have to be there so you can get a credit check done

Oh, wait there is a Paypal option.

But who wants to be automatically billed via Paypal?

SR I know we have discussed this. But I actually have forgotten. The ability to put your current songs on your iPhone exists ya?
