hey see if iPhoneinterface crashes on you when you do this to get original files

open iphoninterface type getfile /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/lock.caf
or the one you need getfile /System/Library/Audio/UISounds/sms-received.caf

it crashes on me also. maybe it's because there is no "getfile" command. when you type "help" it doesn't list it as a command.

K....here goes....

I finally figured out why iPhoneinterface.exe was crashing on me

- Filesize to big....I was able to successfuly copy over an file sms-received.caf that was 40.3kb, but nothing larger

- I was spelling you received instead of received when copying the file over.... so it should be sms-received.caf instead of sms-received.caf

- File wasn't in folder for transfer, in other words, forget to rename, or change file extension

All in all, after the successful transfer, I still get no sound on received text message. Not sure whats up, hope someone knows.

Heres the audio file I used for transfer, not sure because its 19 secs is why it wont play.

EDIT - I'm starting to believe that there is an time length restriction on the sms-received.caf file, using my 19 sec file, hear nothing, but there is a small pause before you hear anything within the file anyway, so maybe it does play it, but plays the pause, so nothin is heard.

So i replaced it with the SentMessage.caf file (of course renamed) and it works, so it could be an Time restriction, or the way I convert the file, in which I believe I did right.

File originally .WAV converted to .mp3 converted to .m4a renamed to .caf I have also tried renaming each type to .caf without converting, and still no go...So still believe its a 1 to 2 sec time restriction.

Any Thoughts?

If you are using an PC, and you are already in that directory, type getfile (file you want)..... don't put the directory and all that up

Ex. getfile sms-received.caf

For those who are wondering about all the system sounds you can edit check out this website [link]. Go to step 17 and it includes a list of all the sounds you can change. ;)

I'm not so technical...sorry

right now i have the following:

"bye bye" -mario for my phone lock sound
"good morning" -arnold schwarzenneger for my unlock sound
"youve got mail" AOL style for my new email alert sound
"DOH" homer simpson for my camera shutter sound

just working on what song i want for my new text message sound... then ill be adding that too
Are you saying that you have posted those ringtones? I'm trying to figure it out but can't tell if you have or not and if you have how to download them myself....

DiBXna you suggested this and yet it crashes on 2 of us? does it work for you?
i didn't bother trying it, i don't really give 2 shits if i get the original sound files back, ill never use them again lol...

sorry the getfile command didn't work, i guess maybe it only really worked for the .png stuff which is maybe why we haven't seen a sounds zip yet...

yeah theyre posted in a zip file on this thread!

and if you are looking to change any files you can just put .caf at the end but it may not work still... so to ensure any sound file will work you need to open your .wav or .mp3 file in iTunes, convert it to aiff and when thats done then change it to .caf

However...I'm not quite the comp. geek I wish I was and I need you to tell me how in the world to find and access a zip file when someone attaches it to a thread. Thanks dude!

here ya go fella: all you have to do is find the sound file you want to replace the default one with and rename it to the name "new-mail.caf" or whichever file it is youre replacing

cd /System/Library/Audio/UISounds
/System/Library/Audio/UISounds/new-mail.caf
/System/Library/Audio/UISounds/sms-received.caf
/System/Library/Audio/UISounds/alarm.caf

have fun

How do i get to these files?
