the Alpine CDA 9857 with the iPod full speed interface works for the iPhone. The phone does say not a compatable device and ask to put the phone in airplane most to reduce interference, just select no. The good thing is that when you get a phone call the music fades out and the phone rings through the car speakers. Enjoy. Hope this was not posted before. Enjoy

I have the same head unit (Alpine CDA 9857) and have been experiencing a lot of issue lately (just bought the phone, after the price drop). Sometimes, while in the middle of playing a song, the music stops and I get an "ERROR 01" message on the head unit. iPhone firmware is 1.0.2. Once I get the error from my head unit there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to get things working again. :(

Still playing with it..

I also have the 9857...

...and I'm seeing exactly what the OP is, FWIW. I think if I plug the iPhone up before cranking the car with the phone off, it will display the message only occasionally about wanting to go into Airplane mode, but it does work otherwise. The fact that it stops playing music when there's an incoming call is fantastic!

It doesn't want to allow me to switch between playlists, though.

I have the original iPhone software, not 1.0.2.
