Hello everyone,

First post here :). I was just wondering if anybody else in the Des Moines area was interested in camping. I'm totally up for it, but I don't want to be the only one there. Reply here if you're interested!

Camping in DSM

Hey, I was at the Jordan Creek Mall today and the guys at the AT&T Store (upstairs on the end by Dillard's) said that the mall wasn't going to allow camping. So if you want to camp, there's the AT&T store on University in WDM, (possibly) at Merle Hay and I'm told there's one in Ankeny as well.

Hey, I was there today also! I actually heard the exact opposite thing: that camping was probably going to be allowed. I went to the mall management office and spoke with the secretary there, and she told me that Apple and AT&T had met with the mall's management and they had decided on a location that camping would be allowed. I gave her my number and she was going to head of security call me with more information. I'll post here as soon as I find out more. Apparently they've had a number of people call and ask about camping, so we wouldn' be alone if it happened!

I just spoke with the head of the mall's security, and they will be allowing campers outside of the two entrances closest to the Apple Store and the AT&T store, respectively. No fires or tent stakes dug into the ground, naturally, and once the doors open at 7 AM no folding chairs or anything will be allowed inside. There will be line barricades set up at each location, so all that'll be left to do is find some way to keep busy for 11 hours. If anyone's up for camping, I'll be there!

I am going to camp at the ATT Store on University @ WDM. Will be there all night (if there are not lot of people around then I might probably sleep in my car)

3G in DSM?

Hi, I was just wondering why are people going to be camping out for the iPhone 3G in Iowa when there is no 3G network in Iowa? I've heard reports that AT&T is planning on getting 3G here by the end of 2008 -- but who knows as they can't solidly confirm this?

If you have a 1st generation iPhone, there really is no need to upgrade (unless you are upgrading the storage space). The only other enhancements beside the minor cosmetic ones is the GPS -- but with no turn-by-turn guidance, is it really worth it right now? All other stuff will be available via software update.

I'm interested in hearing from people in the Des Moines area as to why they are upgrading now with no 3G network here.

I'm from Iowa as well. With no 3G network I'm upgrading for the simple fact I have a 4 Gig and can't stand switching my music all the time. Plus the girlfriend wants the old one for a "iPod touch". I wish we had 3G here. Waterloo (where I'm from) isn't even planned to get it. :(

I don't even have the first gen one, but I want one and have been waiting for this for months. I travel a lot so I don't care about 3G as much as the other functionalities. I have also heard rumors that there are lot of people who are planning to get this on the first day so there will be a line outside the store anyways. What the heck, I suppose, worth the experience.

i'm in des moines, and i'm hoping that because of the lack of a 3G network in Iowa and the fact that demand isn't as high here as in other places that i'll hopefully be able to get one without having to camp overnight. i'll just try my luck around 10am-Noon, give some places a call to double check before i head out. Worst comes to worst i'll just get it next week or whenever they get a new stock.

Actually to everyone who doubts it. Iowa IS getting 3G, to be exact it will be Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport. How wide of an area, well I am not sure but from what I understand it is going to be bare minimums. This has been announced for months through the news networks in Iowa like KCRG and others in fact I am not at home right now so I don't have the webpage link but I will post it later. Also the deadline for the 3G to be active is OCTOBER. So expect it by then. I live in Cedar Rapids and they actually have already started the process because of the flooding damaging cell sites so I am assuming we will probably get it first.
