Just a minor thing.

On the contest page it says to have 10 posts by June 1st, and further down in the small print is says 10 posts by June 15th.

Just letting you know.

Cheers.

How can you afford to give away a free iPhone?
The iPhone Giveaway is a promotion to get people involved in the site. This site has been around a year and I'm hoping it will be around a long time. There has been significant investments made in the design, software and hosting to run EI. I'm very proud of the site, but realize a need to spread the word. I've seen the countless iPhone sites that have come online in the past few months and that adds up to a lot of choices for people who want to talk about the iPhone. I would like them to choose Everything iPhone for discussion. Outside of setting up a fast, easy-to-use, well designed site (credit to 45Royale), you still have to generate a buzz. What better way then to giveaway an iPhone (it'll most likely be a gift card valued at the MSRP of the iPhone). Forums are typical places for "lurkers". People who stop by, but don't register and visit. This was probably the first iPhone site on the web, at least that I am aware of. I'm striving to make it the best. To do that, you have to create a friendly, knowledgeable community. If the giveaway gets people active on EI, it'll prove to be worth the expenditure.

That totally makes sense. Technically I found this site because I searched for "win a free iPhone". Can't afford it otherwise, and found the site to be very interesting. So I guess what you tried worked on at least one person.

Good point. I know of at least two more that are being started up at the beginning of June. Always help to separate yourself or services from the pack.

I admit I have made quite a few posts since I discovered this site via Wordpress.org. When I came to the site I immediate saw the link for the free iPhone and signed up for the forum. I am excited about the products and the potential of how it will shape the way people communicate either personally or in businesss. I also admit I am trying to get my posts in because I just discovered this close to the end of the contest but I'm not trying to spam the board just for the chance to get an iPhone. I love the conversation and thanks for offering this product as a prize.

I'm glad I stumbled onto this site too. I'm also not trying to spam the board. I have a lot of questions to ask about this product, and in doing so if I get a chance to win one of these things, that totally rocks! I'd love not to have to pay for one, but I'll more than likely buy one regardless of not winning. I'm glad this place is avaliable so that I can learn the answers to the many questions I have.

I wasn't sure about the contest rules...are you automatically entered after you have made ten quality posts? or do you make the posts, than have to enter into the contest via some registration process?

Once you make 10 or more posts, you get entered into the registration. From the database, we'll cull names to be entered into a random drawing. Your chance to win does not increase with more posts. Posts must be "quality" posts.

i forget, when is the drawing happening?
Entry deadline is tonight. Basically, I'll pull all registered members of the forum who have made 10 posts. Over the weekend, I'll fire up my FileMaker database that I created a while back for this purpose. It randomly selects a file. If the posts meet the criteria of being "quality" (and I'm not looking for literary works), the winner will be selected. Contact will be made via email and announced Monday on the big site. If this all goes smoothly (selection, contact), then I'll update folks on the forum this weekend.

Said winner will receive an Apple Gift card for $599 and they can use that at their local Apple Store to purchase an 8GB iPhone.

I checked the count this week and your chances are quite good. Something along the lines of 1 in 200.

To avoid a flurry of "last minute, I have to post something to enter this contest posts", I removed the banners promoting the contest. It's been running for months, so folks have had plenty of time to enter.

This is a very awesome site and has provided lots of distraction from my iPhone induced neurosis. Also nice design and color choices. I am a graphic designer and appreciate when sites are not cluttered.

Hey Chris, any chance you could change the rules so that we get one entry per post? I am sure ColsTiger, wjp09, joe, Cantwait4iPhone and ebrunn would agree that it is a good idea ;).

I am kidding of course. I look forward to hearing who the lucky member is next week.

Hm, if ColsTiger had just registered as a new user every 10 posts I think he'd have like a 1 in 3 chance of winning. :)
