I would also like to be able to see one in person at an Apple or Cingular store before I decide to make a purchase and switch service... Just to be sure I am making the right decision!I hope so, I'd sure like to get my grubby little hands on one to see it in person.
Actually, I think this is one of the things Apple does extremely well. They get press FOR FREE! Everyone is still talking about the iPhone everywhere. They only have to promote (or have enough buzz going) to sell the number of iPhones they will have available. Too much promotion and people are going to get frustrated because they can't get one.I haven't seen any yet, but you can definitely say I am anxious to see one. I thought they would be promoting like crazy by now. It is only two short months away! People need to be enticed!
I would have to say you have hit the nail squarely on the head.Yeah, I was going to add that while the buzz factor is a good thing, at the end of the day there is no buzz if the product is weak. I think that's what's killing the Zune. Apple's award-winnind design team is putting out products so cool that their marketing department has less to do.
An interesting result of Apple's underadvertising approach is that they've perpetuated their niche (read: cult) status, which in turn has generated buzz. Personally, I like corporate understatement: people will be more drawn to things they feel they're partially discovering for themselves. Gag them with media overload and they'll get turned off.
Any MBAs care to chime in here?
