Do I have a battery problem? What's normal?

Hi there.

Less than a week old 4S. My battery is nowhere near what my old 3GS was like!

I use approximately 1% per minute while reading this forum on 3G.

I haven't noticed a large drop in battery per cent while in stand by - yet. My phone has had a few issues already - not being able to hit the search button on google, lag in forums, kept dropping the 3G service and now a battery that may be suspect.

What i'd like to know is what is everyone elses battery doing? How long does it take to drop a per centage while on the forum for example.

I can tell you, my phone after 8 hours of very low service was at 61%. Maybe 10 texts and 2-3 emails as well as maybe 15 minutes of 3G web browsing. My wifes 4S - more texts but no web was at 88%.

I know there are dozens of battery threads on here. But I was hoping to address this specific concern about my phone.

Can you post screenshots of your usage and a detailed list of what the usage was (games texting music). This should e monitored over a week to establish a baseline.

Probably a issue with the battery , the iPhone 4S have a much stronger battery than the 3GS .

But also requires much more of said battery for better features. Camera. Siri. Etc.

agree , but this users battery seems to be going down and a excessive rate .

If your using the app, click on the Open Advanced Options tab, grey bar just about the keyboard. Click photo album and go from there..

Holy cow.

I can't find a way to upload pics here.

I can't even email the pics as attachments anymore. They go straight into the email.

Not using the app. The pics i've seen from the app are cut off I think. I can't upload from the phone. And I can't email the pics to my laptop as attachments - they become the message. There's no way to save them in the correct format to post.

Is there an easy way to upload from the iPhone without using the app?

Siri, web surf, social media apps over 3G (~1 hour a day)
games and music (~1.5 hours a day)

Why can't I email pics as attachments like my old 3GS?

I don't recall my 3GS ever sending pics as attachments...they always sent as inline images. Then again, I never had a problem saving them from the sent folder or the inbox that I sent them to. What mail client are you using on the computer when you try to retrieve them to be able to post? About the app, the cut off pictures were fixed a while ago. I have no trouble posting screenshots and pics from the phone with the app.

No, that's about what I get. It really depends on how you use the phone. Keeping the screen on a lot (especially with high brightness) is one of the biggest killers of battery life. GPS as well. In fact, a combination of lots of little things can each gnaw away at how long it will last.

In my experience, a few of those "lots of little things" include:
Siri "Raise to Speak" option
Wifi "Ask to join new networks" option
Location Services -> System Services -> Setting Time Zone

Turning those three useless things off seemed to bring my battery life back up to the level I had with the iPhone 4 on iOS 4.

Also, I turn off keyboard clicks and lock sounds to keep the phone from switching the speakers on repeatedly. It may be a placebo effect, but I feel like that also helps. I don't care for the constant sounds anyway. I don't want a Hollywood computer that beeps and bloops at every little thing I do, I just want it to do stuff, and only bleep if I need to check something.

My battery on new 4S was dropping 1% for every action I made. A text was 1%. Opening app, 1%. I took it to Apple an got a new phone and charger. They said it was an obvious problem and may have been a bad charger also. Since the swap, it's like it should be. I'm @ 62% left now with following usage.

That' true. I transfer photos with my USB cable in the office. I'll let it drain completely, charged full, and not have it plugged until it dies again.
