Do I need iCloud? Redux

I saw a couple iCloud threads, but nothing dirctly answering this: I have a 3gs, am getting the 4s. I have an iPod, no other Mac products. Will the iCloud serve any purpose for me? As I understand it, the iCloud is to allow one to sync data across all devices; I assume that's Mac only, right?

Haven't had much luck figuring this out

I did, thanks. I'm just trying to figure out if it will be of any use to me. I guess it saves connecting to the laptop to sync. Probably I'll get a better feel for it when I get the phone. Appreciate your response!
